Control Method For Peak Power Delivery With Limited Dc-Bus Voltage

View page
US Patent:
7102321, Sep 5, 2006
Filed:
Dec 31, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/335804
Inventors:
John Edwards - Kent WA, US
Longya Xu - Dublin OH, US
Brij B. Bhargava - Santa Barbara CA, US
Assignee:
The Boeing Company - Chicago IL
International Classification:
H02P 7/42
H02M 7/162
US Classification:
318801, 318800, 318254, 363 95, 363 98
Abstract:
A method for driving a neutral point-clamped multi-level voltage source inverter supplying a synchronous motor is provided. A DC current is received at a neutral point-clamped multi-level voltage source inverter. The inverter has first, second, and third output nodes. The inverter also has a plurality of switches. A desired speed of a synchronous motor connected to the inverter by the first second and third nodes is received by the inverter. The synchronous motor has a rotor and the speed of the motor is defined by the rotational rate of the rotor. A position of the rotor is sensed, current flowing to the motor out of at least two of the first, second, and third output nodes is sensed, and predetermined switches are automatically activated by the inverter responsive to the sensed rotor position, the sensed current, and the desired speed.

US Patent:
7145268, Dec 5, 2006
Filed:
Dec 31, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/335683
Inventors:
John Edwards - Kent WA, US
Longya Xu - Columbus OH, US
Brij B. Bhargava - Santa Barbara CA, US
Assignee:
The Boeing Company - Chicago IL
International Classification:
H02B 1/24
US Classification:
307127
Abstract:
A method for driving a neutral point clamped three-level inverter is provided. In one exemplary embodiment, DC current is received at a neutral point-clamped three-level inverter. The inverter has a plurality of nodes including first, second and third output nodes. The inverter also has a plurality of switches. Faults are checked for in the inverter and predetermined switches are automatically activated responsive to a detected fault such that three-phase electrical power is provided at the output nodes.

Method And Systems For An Engine Starter/Generator

View page
US Patent:
8030788, Oct 4, 2011
Filed:
Dec 31, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/347616
Inventors:
Longya Xu - Columbus OH, US
David Dimitri Karipides - Casstown OH, US
Mohamed Abbas - Dayton OH, US
Hao Huang - Troy OH, US
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
F02N 11/04
US Classification:
290 31, 290 46, 31840032, 318800
Abstract:
A method and system for an engine starter/generator is provided. The starter/generator system includes a three phase squirrel cage induction machine, a three phase inverter/converter electrically coupled to the three phase squirrel cage induction machine. The starter/generator system also includes a bidirectional DC-DC converter electrically coupled to the three phase inverter/converter, and a digital control board configured to sensorlessly determine a rotor angle from a plurality of phase currents to the induction machine during a start mode. During the start mode, logic in the digital control board configures the starter/generator system into a combination of an induction motor, a three phase DC-AC inverter, and a DC-DC boost converter, and during a generate mode, the logic in the digital control board configures the starter/generator system into a combination of an induction generator, a three phase AC-DC converter, and a DC-DC buck converter.

US Patent:
20210380263, Dec 9, 2021
Filed:
Mar 19, 2021
Appl. No.:
17/206354
Inventors:
- Columbus OH, US
Longya Xu - Dublin OH, US
Peng Peng - Lewis Center OH, US
International Classification:
B64D 27/24
F01D 15/10
B64D 27/10
B64D 35/04
Abstract:
A turboelectric distributed propulsion based on brushless doubly-fed machines (BDFMs) is provided, which minimizes power conversion, enhances mechanical reliability, and strengthens fault-tolerance capability of a DC-based propulsion system. A turboelectric distributed propulsion (TeDP) architecture using BDFMs for aviation applications, and a designed BDFM, inverter, and controller are provided. Simulations and systems are also provided.
