Abstract:
The present invention includes a gateway, a content storage medium, and a database. The gateway receives multimedia content from a content provider or from at least one media device. The media device may be co-located with the gateway or remotely-located from the gateway. The gateway annotates the received multimedia content, using alphanumeric annotation or voice annotation, to create metadata. This metadata are information that describes the received multimedia content. The content storage medium stores the annotated multimedia content, and the database stores the metadata. The gateway is linked through a wired network or a wireless network to the media device, a television, the content storage medium, and/or the multimedia content provider.

Abstract:
A hand held apparatus for remotely controlling consumer electronics appliances comprises an upper housing having top and bottom surfaces and a lower housing having top and bottom surfaces, with the bottom surface of the upper housing and the top surface of the lower housing being slidably engaged to permit the lower housing to move relative to the upper housing between closed and open positions. The remote control also has a display located in the top surface of the upper housing for presenting an image relevant to the control or operation of the remote control itself or the controlled appliances; a first set of tactile input devices located in the top surface of the upper housing and including an input device for interacting with the displayed image; and a second set of tactile input devices located in the top surface of the lower housing. The two housings may move relative to one another so that the second set of input devices is covered by the top housing when the lower housing is in the closed position and is uncovered when the lower housing is in the open position.

Abstract:
A remote control system includes a first network configured for communication via a first format. The first network includes a router configured to receive packetized remote control codes transmitted to the router in the first format. The remote control system further includes a second network configured for communication via a set of second formats. The second network includes a translator communicatively coupled to the router via a network link The translator is configured to receive the packetized remote control codes from the router in the first format and translate the remote control codes from the first format to a set of second formats. The second network further includes a blaster communicatively coupled to the translator. The blaster is configured to received the packetized remote control codes in the set of second formats and transmit the packetized remote control codes in the set of second formats to a set of consumer-electronic devices.

Abstract:
An information system for selectively providing information in response to a request from a user comprises memory, for storing several databases of information; a search unit, for analyzing the user request and retrieving information related to said request from the memory to generate a first output information signal and for analyzing the first output information signal and retrieving information related to the first output information signal from the memory to generate a second output information signal. The system also includes a webpage unit for receiving the first and second output information signals and selectively displaying said signals on a webpage. The system notifies the user via an output unit, which generates an e-mail to the user which includes the address of said webpage.
