US Patent:
58498044, Dec 15, 1998
Filed:
Jun 26, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/670948
Inventors:
Arlen K. Sarian - Lafayette CO
Alan C. Handermann - Asheville NC
Simon Jones - Leimen, DE
Edward Alan Davis - Pulaski VA
Atish Adhya - Asheville NC
Assignee:
BASF Corporation - Mt. Olive NJ
BASF Aktiengesellschaft - Ludwigshafen
International Classification:
C08J 1104
US Classification:
521 498
Abstract:
A process for recovering polyamide from composite articles that contain polyamide involves (a) subjecting at substantially nondepolymerizing conditions the composite article to a solvent for polyamide for a time sufficient to dissolve substantially all of the polyamide and leaving an insoluble fraction; (b) separating insoluble fraction of the composite article from the dissolved polyamide; and (c) precipitating the dissolved polyamide with appropriate precipitants.

Method For Producing Polyethylene Terephthalate Fibers With Reduced Flammability

View page
US Patent:
53824741, Jan 17, 1995
Filed:
Sep 24, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/950864
Inventors:
Atish Adhya - Asheville NC
Thomas F. Corbin - Asheville NC
Robert L. Lilly - Asheville NC
Assignee:
BASF Corporation - Parsippany NJ
International Classification:
D02G 300
US Classification:
428364
Abstract:
Disclosed is a process for producing polyethylene terephthalate fibers with reduced flammability which comprises the following steps: (a) condensating terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol in a mole ratio of from 1:1. 1-1. 5 at a temperature of from 180. degree. to 240. degree. C. in the presence of a catalyst; (b) adding a polyalkylene glycol phosphate ester; (c) polycondensating at a temperature of from 265. degree. -280. degree. C. under a pressure decreasing from 760 torr to less than 2 torr to form the polyethylene terepthalate; and (d) melt spinning fibers.

Method For Producing Polyamide Fibers With Reduced Flammability

US Patent:
52389820, Aug 24, 1993
Filed:
Sep 24, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/950865
Inventors:
Atish Adhya - Asheville NC
Robert L. Lilly - Asheville NC
Assignee:
BASF Corporation - Parsippany NJ
International Classification:
C08K 5521
C08G 7904
US Classification:
524145
Abstract:
Disclosed is a method for producing polyamide fibers with reduced flammability by melt mixing a polyamide with a phosphate ester of the general formula: ##STR1## wherein n is a number of from 1 to 10; m is a number of from 0 to 3; x is a number of from 0 to 3; R is linear or branched C. sub. 1 - to C. sub. 18 - alkyl radical; at a temperature of from about 180. degree. to about 280. degree. C. , and melt spinning fibers.
