Extended Mount Plate Suspension For Shock Insensitivity

View page
US Patent:
6335847, Jan 1, 2002
Filed:
Aug 6, 1998
Appl. No.:
09/130579
Inventors:
Amanullah Khan - Temecula CA
Alejandro Koji Iwamoto - Temecula CA
Assignee:
Nagnecomp Corp. - Temecula CA
International Classification:
G11B 548
US Classification:
3602445
Abstract:
An improved disk drive suspension in which the load beam rail section is of reduced length, the base portion, defined by an extended mounting plate, increased in length, and the spring portion therebetween increased in length. The load beam rail section is laminated with a flexure substantially as wide as the rail section providing a very rigid structure. The centers of gravity of the load beam and flexure are closely approximate such that their reaction moment under shock is small, limiting the 2 bending mode reaction of the load beam in favor of the 1 bending mode reaction, so that the slider carried by the load beam and flexure is kept flat to the disk against damaging the disk upon recontact.

Disk Drive Suspension With Jumper Lead Segments

US Patent:
6373665, Apr 16, 2002
Filed:
Oct 12, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/687917
Inventors:
Alejandro Koji Iwamoto - Temecula CA
Assignee:
Magnecomp Corp. - Temecula CA
International Classification:
G11B 548
US Classification:
3602459
Abstract:
A low manufacturing cost electrical connector for a disk drive suspension comprises lower cost, metal layer-free first flexible conductive laminate segment to connect to signal circuitry, a more expensive metal layer containing flexible conductive laminate second segment to connect to a slider, and a lower cost, easily variously shaped jumper segment supported on the actuator arm and coupled between said first and second segments to connect the slider to the signal circuitry in a manufacturing cost efficient way.

Two-Piece Load Beam Mount System

View page
US Patent:
6404593, Jun 11, 2002
Filed:
Jun 12, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/592141
Inventors:
Alejandro Koji Iwamoto - Temecula CA
Assignee:
Magnecomp Corp. - Temecula CA
International Classification:
G11B 554
US Classification:
3602446, 360104
Abstract:
A two-piece load beam mounting system supports a load beam in operating proximity to a disk, the mounting system comprising a small mount less subject to flatness problems, the mount having a plate and a central boss, the mount plate having lateral and longitudinal dimensions less than the base portion corresponding dimensions, and a support having lateral and longitudinal dimensions to register with the base portion when the support is sandwiched between the mount and the load beam base portion in attached relation to each; the support and mount plate cooperating to have their combined height no greater than the height of the support to achieve a greater stiffness in the mount system without increasing the height.

Disk Drive Suspension With Hybrid Flexible Circuit Leads

View page
US Patent:
6404595, Jun 11, 2002
Filed:
Oct 12, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/687918
Inventors:
Alejandro Koji Iwamoto - Temecula CA
Assignee:
Magnecomp Corporation - Temecula CA
International Classification:
G11B 548
US Classification:
3602459, 3602458
Abstract:
A lower cost metal layer free flexible conductive laminate segment is connected to a relatively smaller amount of the more expensive metal layer containing flexible conductive laminate segment to connect a slider to signal circuitry in a cost efficient way while avoiding biasing of the slider movement by the conductor.

Disk Drive Suspension With Hybrid Leads

View page
US Patent:
59010169, May 4, 1999
Filed:
Jul 21, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/897660
Inventors:
Alejandro Koji Iwamoto - Temecula CA
Assignee:
Magnecomp Corp. - Temecula CA
International Classification:
G11B 548
US Classification:
360104
Abstract:
The efficiency of wire bundle conductors is realized in a disk drive suspension without wire bundle biasing of the slider movement by interposing a section of flexible conductive laminate conductor between the wire bundle terminus and the slider, thereby obtaining the nearly bias free connection of the flexible conductive laminate conductor to the slider and as well substantially the superior electrical performance of the wire bundle conductor.

Flexure Bias-Free End Lift Suspension

View page
US Patent:
59699051, Oct 19, 1999
Filed:
Feb 12, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/022648
Inventors:
Alejandro Koji Iwamoto - Temecula CA
Amanullah Khan - Temecula CA
Warren Coon - Poway CA
Assignee:
Magnecomp Corporation - Temecula CA
International Classification:
G11B 560
US Classification:
360104
Abstract:
A liftable disk drive suspension load beam of spring steel comprises a base portion, a spring portion, an elongated beam portion having left and right edge rails, and a lift tip beyond the elongated beam portion. The beam portion has a longitudinally disposed flexure support tongue defining an attachment locus for attaching a flexure in cantilevered relation and having a situs for gimballing dimple contact with the flexure. The beam portion has left and right continued extents on either side of the tongue, these continued extents being, free of connection to said the support tongue fore and aft of the flexure attachment locus, the extents being joined beyond the attachment locus to support the lift tip from the elongated beam portion. The flexure tongue provides the flexure freedom of gimballing movement free of interference from the lift tip and the continued extents.
