High Temperature Fuel Cell System With An Electrical Heater

View page
US Patent:
8623533, Jan 7, 2014
Filed:
Sep 14, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/855574
Inventors:
Charles Vesely - Andover MN, US
Bradford Palmer - Ham Lake MN, US
Xin Li - Blaine MN, US
Assignee:
Cummins Power Generation Inc. - Minneapolis MN
International Classification:
H01M 8/04
US Classification:
429 9, 429410
Abstract:
Methods and systems for maintaining near operational mode internal temperatures of a high temperature fuel cell system during a hibernation mode are provided. Embodiments of the claimed invention include powering an electric heater adjacent to the high temperature fuel cell system to heat the high temperature fuel cell system. The use of an electrical heater allows the fuel cell system to maintain approximate operation mode internal temperatures during a hibernation mode and eliminates the problems of excess noise, vibration and exhaust emissions typical of previous fuel cell system heating methods. Gross energy savings of 67% and a fuel consumption reduction rate of 33% have been shown when substituting this method with previous fuel cell system heating methods with no additional manufacturing costs.

System And Method For Efficient Video And Audio Instant Replay For Digital Television

View page
US Patent:
20100043038, Feb 18, 2010
Filed:
Aug 7, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/537438
Inventors:
Xin Li - Fremont CA, US
Assignee:
Zoran Corporation - Sunnyvale CA
International Classification:
H04N 5/44
H04N 7/173
US Classification:
725103, 348559, 348E05101
Abstract:
A digital television system that includes an RF tuner, a transport stream demultiplexer, an audio decoder, a video decoder, a non-persistent memory, and at least one processor. The non-persistent memory is used to store audio and video packetized elementary stream (PES) packets demultiplexed by the transport stream demultiplexer based upon a broadcast signal received and demodulated by the RF tuner. During the process of decoding and presenting audio, video, and audio-video content on a display device of the television system, the at least one processor generates video records corresponding to each video PES packet and audio records corresponding to each audio PES packet. The video and audio records establish a one to one correspondence between each video PES packet and each audio PES packet and permits each video PES packet and each audio PES packet stored in the memory to be located, decoded, and re-displayed on the display device on the television system.

H01M 8/04007
H01M 8/04119
Abstract:
A system and method are provided for increasing efficiency of a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) system by recapturing water via a condensate extraction system that extracts water from a hot cathode exhaust flow of the SOFC stack. Further, the SOFC system can include a radiant heater which has a fuel inlet, an air intake, and an exhaust outlet independent and separate from the power generating components in the SOFC system. The radiant heater can bring the SOFC stack up to operating temperature quickly and/or maintain near operational mode temperatures of the SOFC stack during a hibernation mode.
