Abstract:
An epoxy composition includes an epoxy resin, a latent curing agent, and a catalyst. The composition includes two epoxide groups per molecule, and the latent curing agent is preferably a dicyanopolyamide, and most preferably dicyandiamide. The catalyst includes 2,4-toluene bis dimethyl urea, preferably in a concentration exceeding 70% by weight. The composition can be used in prepregs. The relative concentrations of the epoxy resin, curing agent, and catalyst are selected to achieve desired properties, including specific curing times and temperatures, and glass transition temperatures that enable a cured resin composition to be removed from a mold after being heated to its curing temperature, without being cooled. Exemplary formulations have reduced cure times, at both high and low curing temperatures, as compared to prior art formulations.

Systems and methods which improve the directivity of a transducer array by reducing electrical cross-talk between conductors connected to individual transducer array elements through the use of a plurality of interconnect circuits are shown. A plurality of signal transmission path circuits, such as circuit boards, flexible printed circuits, etc. , are used to provide electrical power to and receive signals from transducer elements of a transducer array. Embodiments couple transducer elements to conductive traces of the signal transmission path circuits in a manner such that adjacent transducer elements are not connected to conductive traces on the same signal transmission path circuit. In some embodiments, a plurality of signal transmission path circuits are offset such that two identical signal transmission path circuits can be used to provide connectivity to array transducer elements using more widely spaced conductive traces, thus reducing electrical cross-talk effects.

A micromixer is fabricated using a selective high intensity focused ultrasound foaming technique. The micromixer employs a 3D porous region for effective mixing. The 3D porous micromixer can achieve sufficient mixing results with a short mixing length for flows with a Reynolds number as low as 0. 1. The fabrication process of the micromixer is rapid, low-cost, and biocompatible. The pore size of the micromixer can be controlled by adjusting the selective high intensity focused ultrasound foaming parameters. The micromixer has potential for use in lab-on-a-chip and micro-total-analysis devices.

An epoxy composition including an epoxy resin, a latent amine curing agent, and a specific catalyst. Preferably, the epoxy resin includes two epoxide groups per molecule, and the latent amine curing agent is a dicyanopolyamide, most preferably, dicyandiamide. The specific catalyst is preferably 2,4-toluene bis dimethyl urea. A prepreg employing the epoxy composition of the present invention can achieve a 95% cure in about one half of the time required by a prepreg that differs only in the catalyst employed. Furthermore, prepregs employing the epoxy composition of the present invention have glass transition temperatures higher than the curing temperatures when cured at a temperature range from about 80 C. to about 150 C., enabling cured prepregs to be removed from molds without being cooled. Use of the prepregs of the present invention thus enables composite component manufacturers to substantially increase production rates without requiring the use of additional molds.

A resistance spot welding monitoring system includes a plurality of sensors coupled to a resistance spot welding system to receive welding data produced during a welding operation. The monitoring system further includes a nugget prediction system. The welding data is indicative of welding parameters used to produce the weld nugget. The nugget prediction system retrieves the welding data and predicts a nugget size based upon the welding data received from the plurality of sensors. Additionally, the nugget prediction system generates a nugget size signal. The monitoring system also includes an indicator that receives the nugget size signal and notifies an operator of a predicted nugget size.

Abstract:
A PMUT ultrasound transducer includes a number of PMUT transmitting elements in a membrane layer. Behind each PMUT transmitting element is a cavity in the membrane layer. The cavities are partially or completely filled with a damping material to reduce ringing of the PMUT transmitting elements. Suitable damping materials include polymers, e.g., soft epoxies, benzocyclobutene or polyimide that are dispersed into the cavities or a phase changing material such as Parylene that precipitates out of a gas phase as a polymer when cured.
