Disclosed is a method and apparatus for improved delay fault testing by optimizing the order of scan cells in a scan chain. The order of the scan cells is determined by using a cost value for an order of scan cells, the cost value being computed from costs assigned to orderings of individual pairs of scan cells. These costs can be based on the number of faults that are untestable when the pair of scan cells are placed consecutively in the scan chain. The disclosed techniques allow for enhanced delay fault coverage by rearranging scan flip-flops without increasing routing overhead.

A method of accelerating texture-based volume rendering is provided. The method includes the following steps. A plurality of levels of granularity comprising a plurality of sub-volumes organized in a hierarchical structure are built. The hierarchical structure is ordered top-down from a coarsest level of granularity to a finest level of a granularity. A visibility factor is determined for each of the plurality of sub-volumes. The visibility factor represents a ratio of visible voxels in the corresponding sub-volume. The plurality of sub-volumes are traversed top-down from the coarsest level of granularity to the finest level of granularity. While traversing each of the plurality of sub-volumes, the corresponding sub-volume is rendered and all children of the rendered sub-volume are skipped, if the visibility factor is greater than given threshold.

An exemplary method of combining two images to form a fused image is provided. A hierarchical structure for each of a plurality of volumes is built. All blocks in each of the hierarchical structures that intersect a slicing plane are found. Each of the plurality of volumes is divided into stacks of parallel slices, and the parallel slices are sorted by visibility order. A next slice in the sorted parallel slices is chosen. The next slice belongs to a current volume. Rendering parameters are changed if the current volume is different from a previous volume associated with the chosen slice in a previous iteration of the step of choosing the slice. Based on the rendering parameters, the next slice is rendered by intersecting the slicing plane with the blocks corresponding to the current volume. The steps of choosing the slice, changing the rendering parameters, and rendering the slice are repeated until all of the sorted parallel slices are rendered.
