Selective Instrumentation Of Distributed Applications For Transaction Monitoring

View page
US Patent:
8433786, Apr 30, 2013
Filed:
Jun 14, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/484240
Inventors:
Dakshi Agrawal - Monsey NY, US
Animashree Anandkumar - Cambridge MA, US
Chatschik Bisdikian - Chappaqua NY, US
Ting He - Ossining NY, US
Shoel Perelman - New York NY, US
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06F 15/173
G06F 7/38
US Classification:
709224, 712227
Abstract:
Systems and methods provide a selective instrumentation strategy for monitoring the progress of transactions in a distributed computing system. The monitoring of the transactive processing of jobs is considered through a collection of computer operating stages in a distributed system, using limited information. The monitoring is performed by observing log records (or footprints) produced during each stage of processing in the system. The footprints lack unique transaction identifiers resulting in uncertainties in monitoring transaction instances. The processing stages are selective instrumented to reduce monitoring uncertainty under the given constraints such as limited budget for instrumentation cost.

Quasi-Dynamic Spectrum Access For Internet Of Things (Iot) Applications

View page
US Patent:
8594023, Nov 26, 2013
Filed:
Dec 16, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/328259
Inventors:
Ting He - Piermont NY, US
Yonghua Lin - Beijing, CN
Qing Wang - Beijing, CN
Murtaza Zafer - White Plains NY, US
Hai Zhan - Beijing, CN
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
H04Q 7/00
H04Q 7/24
US Classification:
370328, 370338
Abstract:
Spectrum access for Internet of things (IOT) applications including receiving information about expected use by a primary user of a spectrum band in a radio frequency spectrum. The spectrum band is classified into at least two working modes based on the expected use. The spectrum band is sensed to determine a current access pattern of the primary user. Based on the classifying and the sensing, one of the working modes is selected as a current working mode of the primary user. Transmissions are scheduled on the spectrum band using a current schedule that is responsive to the current working mode of the primary user. If the current working mode of the primary user changes, the sensing, selecting, scheduling, and determining whether the current working mode has changed are re-performed. Otherwise, the transmission scheduling and determining if the current working mode has changed are re-performed.

Forecasting Based Service For Virtual Machine Reassignment In Computing Environment

View page
US Patent:
8601483, Dec 3, 2013
Filed:
Mar 22, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/069030
Inventors:
Ting He - Piermont NY, US
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06F 9/46
G06F 9/455
US Classification:
718104, 718105
Abstract:
A mechanism is provided for reassigning virtual machines to resources in a computing environment. Monitoring data is collected about virtual machine request history and resource usage in a form of time series for measured indicators. Forecasted time series are computed for the measured indicators over a time window by utilizing time series forecasting. A new assignment is computed by executing a snapshot based assignment algorithm on the forecasted time series. The new assignment is used for reassignment of virtual machines on the resources in the computing environment.

Enhanced Resource Management For A Network System

View page
US Patent:
20130190026, Jul 25, 2013
Filed:
Jan 24, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/357204
Inventors:
Dakshi Agrawal - Monsey NY, US
Ting He - Piermont NY, US
Ramya Raghavendra - White Plains NY, US
Assignee:
INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION - Armonk NY
International Classification:
H04W 24/00
H04B 7/24
US Classification:
455507
Abstract:
According to exemplary embodiments, a method for resource management of network systems includes sampling channel states of a first set of channels from at least one base station associated with a radio network controller providing an application and estimating channel states of a second set of channels from the at least one base station, wherein the estimated channel states are based on previously sampled channel states and currently sampled channel states. The method further includes adapting at least one runtime parameter of the application based on the sampled channel states of the first set of channels and the estimated channel states of the second set of channels.

Monitoring Dynamic Networks

View page
US Patent:
20170155557, Jun 1, 2017
Filed:
Nov 30, 2015
Appl. No.:
14/954188
Inventors:
- Armonk NY, US
Ting He - Piermont NY, US
Liang Ma - White Plains NY, US
International Classification:
H04L 12/24
H04L 29/08
H04L 12/26
Abstract:
Monitoring a network is provided. A set of predicted network topology snapshot graphs of nodes in the network are generated based on a set of network topology prediction models for the network. A subset of the nodes is selected as monitors in the set of predicted network topology snapshot graphs of the network so that each link in a set of selected network links is identifiable using end-to-end measurements between the monitors. Network states of interest are determined in the set of selected network links within a selected time window based on the end-to-end measurements between the monitors.
