Philip S Li - Douglaston NY, 11362
Curtis D Lenox - Elmhurst NY, 11373
International Classification:
A61F 214
US Classification:
424427, 623 4
Abstract:
A weighted upper eyelid implants for assisting and achieving complete eyelid closure and partial recreation of a natural blinking reflex. The implant is formed of a main plate having suture channels extending partially therethrough for receiving a suture knot tied in a suture passing through an adjacent suture hole thereby securing the weighted implant to the eyelid while preserving a cosmetically pleasing image.

Gold Eyelid Weight Implant

View page
US Patent:
7108718, Sep 19, 2006
Filed:
Jul 12, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/889581
Inventors:
Philip Shihua Li - Douglaston NY, US
Erik Melling - Philadelphia PA, US
International Classification:
A61F 2/14
A61F 2/00
US Classification:
623 41, 623 1111, 424427
Abstract:
An eyelid implant for implanting in an upper eyelid of a person having a main body with a water-drop shape. The main body has a head end with a center of gravity at substantially a center point thereof, and a tail end. The diameter of the head end is greater than a diameter of the tail end. At least one suture hole extends completely through the main body. At least one suture channel extends partially through the main body to a predetermined depth. A suture is passed through the at least one suture hole for securing the eyelid implant to an eyelid of a user and said implant causes said eyelid to close.

Multi-Needle Holding Device

View page
US Patent:
20030004523, Jan 2, 2003
Filed:
Jul 2, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/187699
Inventors:
Peter Chan - Quebec, CA
Philip Li - Douglaston NY, US
Marc Goldstein - New York NY, US
Assignee:
Cornell Research Foundation, Inc.
International Classification:
A61B017/04
US Classification:
606/148000
Abstract:
A needle holding device includes a handle, a pivot point and two opposing jaws opposite the handle and pivotable about the pivot point. The jaws have inner opposing surfaces and at least one inner opposing surface has at least one needle groove formed therein for receiving and gripping a needle. At least one of the opposing surfaces has a knurled or rugged platform for securely gripping at least one needle. The needle holding device may have a plurality of substantially parallel or non-parallel needle grooves formed therein for simultaneously receiving and gripping a plurality of needles. Additionally, the plurality of non-parallel needle grooves preferably includes an innermost needle groove disposed nearest to the pivot point and an outermost needle groove disposed furthest from the pivot point, wherein the plurality of needle grooves successively increase in depth from the outermost needle groove to the innermost needle groove so that a plurality of needles can be simultaneously held regardless of needle size or position within the holder.

Medium For Preserving Tissue Without Tissue Culturing Occurring

View page
US Patent:
59255102, Jul 20, 1999
Filed:
Oct 8, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/946936
Inventors:
David A. Schulsinger - New York NY
Philip S. Li - Flushing NY
Marc Goldstein - New York NY
Assignee:
Cornell Research Foundation, Inc. - Ithaca NY
International Classification:
A01N 102
US Classification:
435 11
Abstract:
A method for autotransplantation, is provided including the steps of (a) obtaining a piece of tissue from one part of a body, (b) preserving the tissue by contacting it with a tissue preserving medium, without tissue culturing occurring, and (c) grafting the tissue in another part of the body. The method is especially advantageous for the repair of hypospadias using buccal mucosa tissue. The tissue preserving medium preferably is a solution of (a) 80-120 mM NaCl, (b) 3-6 mM KCl, (c) 0. 1-0. 3 mM MgSO. sub. 4. 7H. sub. 2 O, (d) 1-3 mM CaCl. sub. 2. 2H. sub. 2 O, (e) 0. 2-0. 6 mM NaH. sub. 2 PO. sub. 4, (f) 1. 5-4 mM glucose, (g) 15-25 mM Na lactate, (h) 0. 2-0. 6 mM Na pyruvate, (i) 0. 01-0. 05 mM phenol red, (j) 0. 1-0. 4 mM L-glutamine, (k) 2-35 mM sodium bicarbonate, (l) 125-200 units/ml penicillin-G, (m) 40-60. mu.

Microsurgical Suture Needle

View page
US Patent:
58975721, Apr 27, 1999
Filed:
Oct 8, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/940960
Inventors:
David A. Schulsinger - New York NY
Philip S. Li - Flushing NY
Marc Goldstein - New York NY
Assignee:
Cornell Research Foundation, Inc. - Ithaca NY
International Classification:
A61B 1704
US Classification:
606224
Abstract:
The invention is directed to a microsurgical needle for use in microsurgical techniques. The distal segment of the needle is straight with a circular cross section, and has a sharpened tip with a triangular cross section having three sharp edges for cutting rather than tearing tissue during penetration. The middle segment of the needle has an acutely angled arched shape, and a transitional cross section which transitions between a squared cross section of the main shaft segment and the circular cross section of the straight distal segment. The main shaft segment of the needle has a generally squared cross section, and forms a broadly curved or arched shaft segment which may be easily gripped by a needle holder. The proximal end of the needle forms a suture attachment segment, and may be circular in cross section. The shape of the needle provides an easy angle, better stability, superior tissue alignment, and better control than conventional.

US Patent:
59022280, May 11, 1999
Filed:
Oct 8, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/940959
Inventors:
David A. Schulsinger - New York NY

Marc Goldstein - New York NY
Assignee:
Cornell Research Foundation, Inc. - Itaca NY
International Classification:
A61F2/04
US Classification:
600 36
Abstract:
The invention is directed to an apparatus and method for both supporting and preserving a piece of graft tissue during pre-implantation preparation, and for creating a tubular graft from the piece of graft tissue. The purpose of the device is (1) to support, stabilize, and preserve a piece of graft tissue; (2) to provide a rotating base to debride or otherwise prepare the donor tissue; and (3) to place the tissue around a mandrel for tubularization. The apparatus may be used as a support for preparing a piece of tissue for use as a skin graft or the like. Additionally, the preferred embodiment of the invention provides an advantageous method and apparatus for forming the graft tissue into a tubular configuration for use as a tubular graft.
