Laterally-Actuated Dispenser With One-Way Valve For Storing And Dispensing Metered Amounts Of Substances

View page
US Patent:
7665923, Feb 23, 2010
Filed:
Sep 27, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/237599
Inventors:
Daniel Py - Larchmont NY, US
Julian Chan - Spring Valley NY, US
David Fellows - Pound Ridge NY, US
Eric E. Hartman - Ridgefield CT, US
Bing He - Ridgewood NY, US
Assignee:
Medical Instill Technologies, Inc. - New Milford CT
International Classification:
A46B 11/02
US Classification:
401188R, 401 11, 401176, 401265
Abstract:
A dispenser comprising a body defining a variable-volume storage chamber and a dispensing portion defining a bore coupled in fluid communication with the storage chamber, an outlet aperture coupled in fluid communication with the bore, and a one-way valve. The valve includes an axially-extending valve seat and flexible valve cover seated on the valve seat, defining a normally-closed, axially-extending seam therebetween forming a fluid-tight seal. The valve cover is movable relative to the valve seat and the seam is connectable in fluid communication with the outlet aperture. The dispenser further comprises an actuator and piston assembly including a piston receivable within the bore, a manually-engageable actuator connected to the piston for moving the piston between first and second positions relative to the bore to dispense substance within the bore through the outlet aperture and out of the dispenser.

US Patent:
8007193, Aug 30, 2011
Filed:
Feb 23, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/710516
Inventors:
Daniel Py - Larchmont NY, US
Julian Chan - Spring Valley NY, US
David Fellows - Pound Ridge NY, US
Eric E. Hartman - Ridgefield CT, US
Bing He - Ridgewood NY, US
Assignee:
Medical Instill Technologies, Inc. - New Milford CT
International Classification:
A46B 11/02
US Classification:
401188R, 401 11, 401176, 401265
Abstract:
A dispenser for dispensing a substance, such as a pharmaceutical, ophthalmic, dermatological, cosmeceutical, cosmetic or other product, has a body with a variable-volume storage chamber for storing the product. A dispensing portion of the dispenser is connected with the body and has a compression chamber in fluid communication with the storage chamber for receiving substance therefrom, and an outlet aperture coupled in fluid communication with the compression chamber. A one-way valve of the dispenser includes an axially-extending valve seat and an axially-extending flexible valve cover seated on the valve seat and defining a normally-closed, axially-extending seam therebetween forming a fluid-tight seal between the valve cover and valve seat. The flexible valve cover is movable relative to the valve seat and the seam is connectable in fluid communication with the outlet aperture to allow the passage of substance through the seam and out of the dispenser.

Apparatus For Dispensing Fluids

US Patent:
8348104, Jan 8, 2013
Filed:
Sep 10, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/900335
Inventors:
Daniel Py - Larchmont NY, US
Brian Tulley - Naughatuck CT, US
Jeff Willey - Brookfield CT, US
Norbert Assion - Shelton CT, US
Nathaniel Houle - New York NY, US
Julian Chan - New Milford CT, US
Bing He - Ridgewood NY, US
Assignee:
Medical Instill Technologies, Inc. - New Milford CT
International Classification:
B65D 37/00
US Classification:
222214, 222105
Abstract:
An apparatus for storing fluid and dispensing multiple portions of the stored fluid has a container defining a variable-volume storage chamber; a dispensing valve including a valve inlet coupled in fluid communication with the variable-volume storage chamber, and an elastic valve member in fluid communication with the valve inlet and defining a normally-closed valve opening; a manually engageable actuator; and a pump including a compressible member defining a compression chamber coupled in fluid communication with the variable-volume storage chamber. Multiple portions of the stored fluid are hermetically sealed in the variable-volume storage chamber. The actuator is manually engageable and movable between (i) a first position wherein the compression chamber defines a first volume, and (ii) a second position wherein the compression chamber defines a second volume less than the first volume. In the second position the fluid in the compression chamber exceeds a valve opening pressure and, in turn, moves the elastic valve member between (i) a normally closed position hermetically sealing the one-way valve and variable-volume storage chamber with respect to ambient atmosphere, and (ii) an open position permitting fluid flow through the valve opening.

Assignee:
Medical Instill Technologies, Inc. - New Milford CT
International Classification:
B65D 37/00
US Classification:
222207, 222212, 222 82
Abstract:
An apparatus for storing fluid and dispensing multiple portions of a stored fluid therefrom. The apparatus comprises a container defining a variable-volume storage chamber for receiving therein the fluid and a dispensing valve including a valve inlet coupled in fluid communication with the variable volume storage chamber, and a valve member in fluid communication with the valve inlet and defining a normally-closed valve opening. The valve member is responsive to fluid at the valve inlet exceeding a valve opening pressure to move between (i) a normally closed position, and (ii) an open position permitting fluid flow through the valve opening. The dispensing valve defines a dispensing axis defining a direction substantially along which fluid is dispensed from the valve, and further includes an outlet surface over which dispensed fluid flows oriented at an acute angle relative to the dispensing axis for preventing the collection of residual dispensed fluid thereon.
