B05D 5/12
H01L 31/02
US Classification:
136263, 427 74, 252 622
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing a polymer composite film for an active layer of a photovoltaic cell according to an embodiment of this invention includes providing a quantity of a solution of a polymer matrix material, mixing a quantity of a guest material with the quantity of the solution of polymer matrix material to form a blend of active material, and controlling a growth rate of the polymer composite film to control an amount of self-organization of polymer chains in the polymer matrix material. A polymer composite film for an active layer of a photovoltaic cell is produced according to this method.

US Patent:
20090229667, Sep 17, 2009
Filed:
Mar 14, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/049252
Inventors:
Vishal Shrotriya - El Monte CA, US
Gang Li - El Monte CA, US
Assignee:
SOLARMER ENERGY, INC. - El Monte CA
International Classification:
H01L 31/0256
H01L 31/06
H01L 31/18
US Classification:
136263, 427 74, 427109, 438 82, 257E31003
Abstract:
A translucent solar cell has a transparent substrate and a first translucent electrode that is in anode. A transparent active layer, that is a substantially organic material layer, is formed on top of the anode. On top of the active layer, a second translucent electrode is formed. The second translucent electrode is the cathode. In a variation, the first translucent electrode is the cathode and the second translucent electrode the anode. The flexibility in choosing the order of the anode and cathode relative to the transparent substrate allows for an increase in processing techniques and, thus, the amount of utilizable materials to increase the power conversion efficiency of translucent solar cells.

Photon-Conversion Materials (Pcms) In Polymer Solar Cells-Enhancement Efficiency And Prevention Of Degradation

View page
US Patent:
20100012177, Jan 21, 2010
Filed:
Feb 16, 2007
Appl. No.:
12/162943
Inventors:
Yang Yang - Los Angeles CA, US
Gang Li - Los Angeles CA, US
International Classification:
H01L 31/00
US Classification:
136256
Abstract:
A photovoltaic device has a photovoltaic cell and a photon-conversion component. The photon-conversion component has a photon-conversion material in its composition. The photon-conversion material, while the photovoltaic device is in operation, converts photons in a spectral region including a first wavelength to photons in a spectral region including a second wavelength, the second wavelength being longer then the first wavelength. The photons having the second wavelength are at least one of less damaging to the photovoltaic cell than photons having the first wavelength or converted more efficiently to an electrical current than photons having the first wavelength.

US Patent:
20100012178, Jan 21, 2010
Filed:
Jul 17, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/175261
Inventors:
Yang Yang - Los Angeles CA, US
Gang Li - Los Angeles CA, US
Assignee:
The Regents of the University of California - Oakland CA
International Classification:
H01L 31/00
H01B 1/00
US Classification:
136256, 2525181, 2525202
Abstract:
An electro-optic device has a first electrode, a second electrode spaced apart from the first electrode, an active layer disposed between the first electrode and the second electrode, and an interfacial layer in contact with the active layer. The interfacial layer is a blend of a metal oxide and a second material that at least one of reduces a work function or increases an electrical conductivity of the interfacial layer according to an embodiment of this invention. A composition for electro-optic devices is a blend of at least one metal oxide and at least one salt in a ratio, by volume, of at least 1:0.1 and less than 1:1.2.

Large Area Solar Cell

View page
US Patent:
20100018581, Jan 28, 2010
Filed:
Jul 24, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/179387
Inventors:
Vishal Shrotriya - El Monte CA, US
Casey Irvin - El Monte CA, US
Gang Li - El Monte CA, US
Yang Yang - Los Angeles CA, US
Assignee:
SOLARMER ENERGY, INC. - El Monte CA
THE REGENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA - Oakland CA
International Classification:
H01L 31/0352
US Classification:
136265, 295921
Abstract:
A polymer solar cell has an anode, cathode and an active layer. The anode has a surface area larger than the cathode. On the anode, in the area with no cathode, is a conducting element in electrical contact with the anode, having a higher conductivity than the anode and substantially surrounding the cathode in order to minimize the distance between any two points on the cathode and the conducting element. The conducting element allows electrons to travel a shorter distance in the anode and through a higher conducting path to an electrical contact.

Tandem Solar Cell

View page
US Patent:
20100276071, Nov 4, 2010
Filed:
Apr 29, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/432665
Inventors:
Vishal Shrotriya - El Monte CA, US
Gang Li - El Monte CA, US
Assignee:
SOLARMER ENERGY, INC. - El Monte CA
International Classification:
B32B 37/10
US Classification:
156182
Abstract:
Two methods to achieve a tandem solar cell are disclosed. The first involves stacking together two or more complete polymer solar cells, each having a polymer blend active layer. The individual solar cells can be connected either in series or in parallel. In the second method, two individual polymer solar cells are first constructed and then laminated together to form a tandem structure. The lamination can be metal-free, thus resulting in translucent polymer solar cells.
