US Patent:
7339741, Mar 4, 2008
Filed:
Nov 14, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/599536
Inventors:
Yaujen Wang - Arcadia CA, US
Gilbert Y. Chan - Yorba Linda CA, US
Assignee:
Northrop Grumman Systems Corporation - Los Angeles CA
International Classification:
G92B 27/14
G02B 13/14
G08B 13/14
US Classification:
359629, 359356, 25033901
Abstract:
Systems and methods for providing a wide angle multi-color infrared (IR) optical system are disclosed. In one embodiment, a system is provided that comprises a negative lens configured to receive an incoming light beam scene over a wide FOV and a beam splitter configured to receive incoming light beam associated with the incoming light beam scene from the negative lens and to provide light beams of a first color to a first channel and to provide light beams of a second color to a second channel. The system further comprises a first positive lens assembly arranged to focus light beams of the first color received from the beam splitter on a first image detector, and a second positive lens assembly arranged to focus light beams of the second color received from the beam splitter on a second image detector.

US Patent:
7554076, Jun 30, 2009
Filed:
Jun 21, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/471926
Inventors:
Yaujen Wang - Arcadia CA, US
Brendan J. D. Irwin - Glendora CA, US
Raj K. Shori - Burbank CA, US
Assignee:
Northrop Grumman Corporation - Los Angeles CA
International Classification:
G01S 7/486
US Classification:
250221, 250551, 244 315, 244 316
Abstract:
An optical sensor system and method includes a plurality of optical transceiver modules arranged across the surface of the optical sensor in a predetermined pattern. A given optical transceiver module includes an optical transmitter that produces at least one light beam and an optical receiver that detects reflected light from the at least one light beam. The optical transceiver module further includes housing for housing the optical transmitter and the optical receiver.

Dichroic Beam Splitter And Related Apparatus And Methods

US Patent:
7616378, Nov 10, 2009
Filed:
May 17, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/130608
Inventors:
Yaujen Wang - Arcadia CA, US
Assignee:
Northrop Grumman Corporation - Los Angeles CA
International Classification:
G02B 27/10
G02B 27/14
US Classification:
359618, 359631, 359637
Abstract:
Dichroic beam splitters having non-parallel entry and exit surfaces, reduced distance between such surfaces, and an aspherical exit surface can be advantageously used in dual channel optical systems, particularly when one channel is dedicated to infrared light and the other channel is dedicated to visible or near-infrared light.

Compact, Folded Wide-Angle Large Reflective Unobscured Optical System

View page
US Patent:
53791576, Jan 3, 1995
Filed:
Dec 2, 1993
Appl. No.:
8/168786
Inventors:
Yaujen Wang - Arcadia CA
Assignee:
Hughes Aircraft Company - Los Angeles CA
International Classification:
G02B 508
US Classification:
359861
Abstract:
A wide-angle optical imaging system (10) employs three mirrors (20, 22, 24) to reflect and propagate beams of electromagnetic energy (16, 17, 18) from four reflecting surfaces. A convex mirror (20) is the primary mirror/reflector. A concave mirror (22) is both the secondary and quaternary mirror/reflector for the system. A folding mirror (24) which is essentially flat mirror is the tertiary mirror/reflector for the system. The optical axis (36) of the system (10) is normal to the center of the folding mirror (24). The vertex of the convex mirror (20) and the vertex of the concave mirror (22) lie along the optical axis (36). A distortion corrector (32) and filter (34) are positioned in front of the image plane (30) of the system (10).

US Patent:
20150098002, Apr 9, 2015
Filed:
Dec 5, 2013
Appl. No.:
14/098231
Inventors:
YAUJEN WANG - ARCADIA CA, US
Assignee:
NORTHROP GRUMMAN SYSTEMS CORPORATION - FALLS CHURCH VA
International Classification:
G02B 13/18
H04N 5/225
G02B 13/00
H04N 5/232
US Classification:
34833311, 359716, 29428
Abstract:
Systems and methods are provided for optical systems and methods. A compact optical system can include a fore optical assembly, an aft optical assembly, and a phase corrector plate located between the fore optical assembly and the aft optical assembly. The phase corrector plate can have a substantially flat first surface and a set of high order aspherical coefficients on the second surface. In one aspect, the fore optical assembly and the aft optical assembly comprise achromatic doublets, apochromatic triplets, or a combination of elements. In another aspect, a surface of the phase corrector plate is located near or at an optical stop.
