Abstract:
Described is a method for producing the compounds described according to the structure: ##STR1## wherein R represents ethyl or methyl as well as optical isomers thereof having the structures: ##STR2## wherein R represents methyl or ethyl, as well as uses thereof in augmenting or enhancing the aroma of perfume compositions, colognes and perfumed articles such as perfumed polymers and solid or liquid anionic, cationic, nonionic or zwitterionic detergents, fabric softener compositions and fabric softener articles. Also described are processes and compositions for use in perfume aroma augmenting, enhancing, modifying and altering compositions and as perfume, cologne and perfumed article aroma imparting compositions of mixtures of the compounds defined according to the structure: ##STR3## wherein R represents methyl or ethyl taken further together with the alcohol having the structure: ##STR4## with one or more butanoyl cyclohexane derivatives and/or 3-methyl-1-phenyl-pentanol-5. The process for preparing the compounds having the structure: ##STR5## wherein R represents methyl or ethyl involves a two-step reaction wherein the compound having the structure ##STR6## is hydrogenated in the presence of acid to form the alcohol having the structure ##STR7## and the resulting alcohol is then esterified.

Abstract:
Described is a genus of norbornylbutadiene-acrolein adducts defined according to the structure: ##STR1## wherein one of X. sub. 1 or X. sub. 2 represents carboxaldehyde and the other of X. sub. 1 or X. sub. 2 represents hydrogen; wherein R. sub. 1 and R. sub. 2 taken together represent vinyl or ethylidene and R. sub. 3 represents hydrogen or R. sub. 2 and R. sub. 3 taken together completes a cyclopenteno moiety and R. sub. 1 represents hydrogen and uses thereof in augmenting or enhancing the aroma of consumable materials selected from the group consisting of perfume compositions, colognes and perfumed articles (e. g. , perfumed polymers, solid or liquid anionic, cationic, nonionic or zwitterionic detergents, fabric softener compositions, dryer-added fabric softener articles, hair preparations, hair sprays, bath preparations and the like). Also described is a process for preparing norbornylbutadiene-acrolein adducts comprising the step of reacting the compound defined according to the structure: ##STR2## with acrolein in the presence of a Lewis acid catalyst.

Abstract:
Described is a method for producing the substantially pure compound defined according to the structure: ##STR1## and uses thereof in augmenting or enhancing the aroma of perfume compositions, colognes and perfumed articles such as perfumed polymers and solid or liquid anionic, cationic, nonionic or zwitterionic detergents, fabric softener compositions and fabric softener articles. Abstract:
A process for the preparation of a mixture of compounds having a sandalwood aroma is disclosed, which process comprises: 1. Reacting catechol with camphene in the presence of a Friedel Crafts Catalyst to form a first alkylation product; and then 2. Treating said first alkylation product with hydrogen in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst, thus forming, initially, the diol intermediate of our invention and then, on continuing the hydrogenation, the novel mixture of our invention And sandalwood perfume compositions, perfumed articles and colognes containing such mixtures.
