Huffman Decoding Using Cascaded Sub-Table Lookup Method

View page
US Patent:
6580377, Jun 17, 2003
Filed:
May 30, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/870176
Inventors:
Robert Weixiu Du - Danville CA
Chinping Q. Yang - Cupertino CA
Assignee:
Sony Corporation - Tokyo
Sony Electronics Inc. - Park Ridge NJ
International Classification:
H03M 740
US Classification:
341 67, 341 65
Abstract:
A bitstream is sampled at an interval predetermined as a function of available processing power and memory storage capacity. The sampled bits are evaluated against a first layer Huffman decoding subtable. The subtable obtains the address of a second layer subtable from an indexed location identified by the sampled bits. A second bit sample is parsed to the designated second layer subtable, which outputs either an address for a third layer subtable, or a symbol and an associated code length.

Inventors:
Robert Weixiu Du - Danville CA, US
Chinping Q. Yang - Cupertino CA, US
Assignee:
Sony Corporation - Tokyo
Sony Electronics Inc. - Park Ridge NJ
International Classification:
G10L021/04
US Classification:
704228, 704270, 704500, 711 5
Abstract:
A method, apparatus and program product facilitates the sharing of memory resources between exclusive audio post-processes. A program identifies post-processing applications that execute at different instances and assigns to them a common memory block. An audio packet arrives at a digital signal processor (DSP). The DSP associates a frame of the packet with a post-process. The DSP buffers the frame to a memory block that corresponds to the post-process. Upon releasing the buffered frame, the DSP prepares the memory block for use with a second post-process and frame.

System For Fingerprint Image Reconstruction Based On Motion Estimate Across A Narrow Fingerprint Sensor

View page
US Patent:
7212658, May 1, 2007
Filed:
Aug 25, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/927599
Inventors:
Robert Weixiu Du - Danville CA, US
Chinping Yang - Cupertino CA, US
Chon In Kou - San Jose CA, US
Assignee:
Sony Corporation - Tokyo
Sony Electronics Inc. - Park Ridge NJ
International Classification:
G06K 9/00
US Classification:
382124, 382115
Abstract:
In accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, an efficient and accurate system and method are described for detecting a fingerprint from swipe sensor system. A swipe sensor module is coupled to a microprocessor module. The swipe sensor module collects fingerprint image data as a plurality of frames and passes the frames of data to the microprocessor module. The microprocessor module assembles the frames of data into a complete image of the fingerprint that is cropped and processed to remove noise and artifacts. The cropped image is used to generate a template in a first instance and to compare an extracted portion of the cropped image to existing templates in a second instance.

Method And Apparatus For Photomask Image Registration

View page
US Patent:
7260813, Aug 21, 2007
Filed:
Oct 25, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/973890
Inventors:
Robert W. Du - Danville CA, US
John T. Nogatch - Boulder Creek CA, US
Assignee:
Synopsys, Inc. - Mountain View CA
International Classification:
G06F 17/50
US Classification:
716 21, 716 19, 716 4
Abstract:
One embodiment of the present invention provides a system that computes translational differentials between a database-image and a scanned-image of a photomask. During operation, the system receives a noise-free database-image and a scanned-image that is generated by an imaging process. Next, the system determines whether the database-image has complex geometry and whether the database-image is a line-and-space pattern. If the database-image is a line-and-space pattern, the system first converts the scanned-image into a polarity-enhanced-image. The system then computes translational differentials by performing a correlation using the database-image and the polarity-enhanced-image. On the other hand, if the database-image is not a line-and-space pattern, the system computes translational differentials by performing a correlation using the database-image and the scanned-image. Note that the accuracy of the computed translational differentials is significantly increased because the system chooses a technique for computing the translational differentials which is suitable for the type of pattern present in the database-image.

Audio Post Processing In Dvd, Dtv And Other Audio Visual Products

View page
US Patent:
7668317, Feb 23, 2010
Filed:
May 30, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/867736
Inventors:
Chinping Q. Yang - Cupertino CA, US
Robert Weixiu Du - Danville CA, US
Assignee:
Sony Corporation - Tokyo
Sony Electronics Inc. - Park Ridge NJ
International Classification:
H04H 5/00
US Classification:
381 22, 381 27
Abstract:
The method and system of present invention sequences audio post-processing algorithms to simulate live or theater sound. An audio signal is selectively post-processed according to equipment availability and listener preferences. Downmixing or Prologic algorithms are applied to a signal arriving at sound system. A listener inputs their speaker configuration to a player console. Desired post-processing effects are likewise indicated to the console. For instance, if surround sound equipment is both available and selected, then surround portions of the audio signal are parsed to surround speakers. Bass management techniques then transfer low frequency channels of the signal to compatible speakers. VES or DCS algorithms further manipulate the surround portion of the signal to create an illusion of immersion, and a center channel equalizer balances the signal playback. Alternatively, the post-processed signal is transmitted to a headphone set.
