US Patent:
20220193868, Jun 23, 2022
Filed:
Dec 15, 2021
Appl. No.:
17/551596
Inventors:
- New Britain CT, US
Peter Hague WADESON - Silver Spring MD, US
Eric Louis KUNZ - Shrewsbury PA, US
BhanuPrakash VILLURI - Towson MD, US
Tyler PETRUS - Baltimore MD, US
Wing W. LIN - Bel Air MD, US
International Classification:
B25B 21/02
B25B 23/147
B25D 17/06
Abstract:
An impact power tool includes a housing, a motor, a controller, an output member configured to be rotated when the motor is energized, and an impact mechanism configured to rotationally drive the output member. The impact mechanism is configured to selectively apply rotational impacts to the output member when a torque on the output member exceeds a torque threshold. The controller is configured to control the motor during a first phase of operation with open loop control and a baseline conduction band and advance angle setting when a sensed tool operation parameter is one of above or below a threshold value. The controller is configured to control the motor during a second phase of operation with closed speed loop control and an increased conduction band and advance angle setting when the sensed tool operation parameter is the other of above or below the threshold value.

Appl. No.:
17/571264
Inventors:
- New Britain CT, US
Peter Hague WADESON - Silver Spring MD, US
Eric Louis KUNZ - Shrewsbury PA, US
BhanuPrakash VILLURI - Towson MD, US
Tyler PETRUS - Baltimore MD, US
Wing W. LIN - Bel Air MD, US
International Classification:
B25B 23/147
B25B 21/02
Abstract:
An impact power tool includes a housing, a motor, a controller, an impact mechanism configured to be driven by the motor, and an output spindle configured to receive rotational impacts from the impact mechanism to rotate the output spindle. The controller is configured to detect a first impact of the rotational impacts or to detect when the motor speed drops below a speed threshold value. The controller is configured to control the motor to have a first non-zero target rotational speed using closed loop control for a predetermined time period after the first impact is detected or when the motor speed dropping below the speed threshold value is detected. The controller is configured to control the motor to have a second non-zero target rotational speed using the closed loop control after the predetermined time period. The first non-zero target rotational speed is less than the second non-zero target rotational speed.

US Patent:
20220193878, Jun 23, 2022
Filed:
Dec 14, 2021
Appl. No.:
17/644110
Inventors:
- New Britain CT, US
Tyler Petrus - Baltimore MD, US
International Classification:
B25F 5/00
B25B 21/02
Abstract:
An impact power tool includes one or more of the following features including a housing, a motor, an output spindle, a rotary impact assembly, and a planetary transmission having a fixed ring gear and rotatable planet gear carrier. In an aspect, the planetary transmission is configured to transmit rotational motion from a motor output shaft to a cam shaft at a single overall speed reduction ratio. The planetary transmission includes a sun gear rotatably driven by the motor output shaft, a planet carrier rotatably driving the cam shaft, a ring gear rotationally fixed relative to the tool housing, a first planet gear mounted to the planet carrier and meshed with the sun gear but not meshed with the ring gear and a second planet gear mounted to the carrier and meshed with the ring gear but not meshed with the sun gear.

Appl. No.:
17/571246
Inventors:
- New Britain CT, US
Peter Hague WADESON - Silver Spring MD, US
Eric Louis KUNZ - Shrewsbury PA, US
BhanuPrakash VILLURI - Towson MD, US
Tyler PETRUS - Baltimore MD, US
Wing W. LIN - Bel Air MD, US
International Classification:
H02P 29/024
H02P 3/06
B25B 21/02
Abstract:
A power tool includes a housing, a brushless motor received in the housing, a power switch coupled to the housing and actuatable by a user, a controller configured to control power delivery to the motor in response to actuation of the power switch, and an output spindle configured to rotate when the motor is energized. The controller is configured to maintain an amount of current delivered to the motor to be less than or equal to a current limit by turning off or reducing power to the motor for a time period if the current exceeds the current limit and then restarting power delivery to the motor. The time period is greater than the duration of one full current cycle.

US Patent:
20230021944, Jan 26, 2023
Filed:
Jun 9, 2022
Appl. No.:
17/836408
Inventors:
- TOWSON MD, US
Tyler PETRUS - Baltimore MD, US
International Classification:
B25F 5/00
H02J 7/00
H01M 50/242
H01M 50/247
Abstract:
The present disclosure is directed to a cordless power tool vibration isolation system. A solution to negative impacts of vibration on a removable battery pack caused by operation of a cordless power tool. Isolating the battery pack from the power tool reduces wear and tear on the battery pack including the pack housing, the pack terminals and internal pack components. A battery pack interface of the power tool including a discrete interface housing that mates with the battery pack and a vibration isolation element that separates and isolates the combination of the discrete interface housing and the battery pack from the power tool and the power tool's associated motor induced vibrations.
