Retainer Assembly For Use With Tire Deflation Devices

View page
US Patent:
6357961, Mar 19, 2002
Filed:
May 3, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/562975
Inventors:
Toranj Marphetia - Brookfield WI, 53045-4528
International Classification:
E01F 1300
US Classification:
404 6
Abstract:
A spike retaining base has a top base surface, a generally vertical aperture defined within it, and a plurality of aperture slots. A base insert includes a central hub and a plurality of insert arms. Each arm is foldable so as to allow the insert base to wrap around the base of a tire puncturing spike. When used, the base insert is positioned above the base aperture and the base of a spike is positioned above the base insert. The spike base and the base insert are urged into the base aperture to the point that the spike and the base insert are lockingly engaged with the base. As a tire engages the spike, a bubble at the hub of the base insert allows the base insert to be forced down into the base aperture thereby releasing the spike from the base.

US Patent:
7037032, May 2, 2006
Filed:
Oct 17, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/252165
Inventors:
Toranj Marphetia - Brookfield WI, US
International Classification:
E01F 13/12
US Classification:
404 6
Abstract:
A molded “shear pin” or spike retainer is used with an assembly of tire-puncturing and tire-deflating spikes. The retainer is a solid U-shaped device having at least two straight portions that are connected together by bends. A first retainer portion is dimensioned to be slidingly insertable through a bore that is defined within the base of the spike. The first retainer portion is also dimensioned to be slidingly insertable through opposing apertures that are defined within a spike holder. When the opposing spike holder apertures are aligned with the spike aperture, the spike is spaced above a floor that forms part of a cavity within the spike holder. The first retainer portion holds the spike firmly within the spike holder. In this position, the spike is axially and downwardly movable relative to the spike holder when the first retainer portion is sheared by a downward force exerted on the spike.

US Patent:
63121891, Nov 6, 2001
Filed:
Apr 12, 2000
Appl. No.:
9/548333
Inventors:
Toranj Marphetia - Brookfield WI
International Classification:
G01F 1312
US Classification:
404 6
Abstract:
A metal spike has a plurality of sharp blades which are functionally adapted for puncturing a rubber tire as the tire passes over the spike. As the rubber tire moves away from the spike assembly or array, the spike is withdrawn from the holder and remains embedded in the tread of the tire. The spike includes a plurality of grooves which extend along the body of the spike and between adjacent blades to allow pressurized air escaping from the tire to run along the spike grooves and to a central internal airflow vent until the tire is partially or completely deflated.
