Security Door Locking Mechanism

View page
US Patent:
44702779, Sep 11, 1984
Filed:
Jul 7, 1982
Appl. No.:
6/396010
Inventors:
Tim M. Uyeda - South San Gabriel CA
Assignee:
La Gard, Inc. - Torrance CA
International Classification:
E05B 6314
US Classification:
70118
Abstract:
A locking mechanism for security doors such as safes. A mounting plate is provided for attachment to the inner surface of the door. A cylindrical activating member is mounted on a pin for rotation about an axis normal to the inner surface of the door. The activating member contains a plurality of activating fingers and mounting posts for connecting to locking pin actuating mechanisms directly or through linkages. A groove is provided in the periphery of the activating member. A pair of sliding members are mounted to the plate. One sliding member is positioned to slide into the groove to prevent rotation of the activating member. The second sliding member is adapted to slide into abutment with the first member to prevent sliding thereof. Standard lock mechanisms of the combination or pin tumbler type for use with a key are mounted to the plate and connected to the two sliding members to control their movement.

Fence Lever Control Device For A Combination Lock

View page
US Patent:
47561769, Jul 12, 1988
Filed:
Jun 13, 1986
Appl. No.:
6/873811
Inventors:
Tim M. Uyeda - South San Gabriel CA
Assignee:
La Gard, Inc. - Torrance CA
International Classification:
E05B 3708
US Classification:
70303A
Abstract:
A fence lever control device for a combination lock provides a pivoted plate having an arm positioning a spring to normally bias the fence lever of the lock in a position out of engagement with the fence lever operating cam wheel, with an actuator roller mounted to the cam wheel which engages a follower surface on the pivoted plate once on each complete revolution of the cam wheel in a given direction in response to similar rotation of the dial shaft to which the cam wheel is mounted to thereby shift the pivoted plate and its associated spring mounting arm in an over center fashion to place the spring in a position to bias the fence lever toward the cam wheel, movement of the fence lever into engagement with the cam wheel being prevented by engagement between the fence member and the tumbler wheel assemblies when the wheel assemblies are not oriented in a predetermined relationship.

Key Decoding Apparatus

View page
US Patent:
40903036, May 23, 1978
Filed:
Apr 22, 1976
Appl. No.:
5/679169
Inventors:
Tim M. Uyeda - South San Gabriel CA
Assignee:
La Gard, Inc. - Torrance CA
International Classification:
G01B 328
G01B 520
US Classification:
33174F
Abstract:
Method and apparatus for decoding and duplicating a key wherein the notches in the shank of the key are coded to a predetermined coded depth and spacing therebetween. An index card having a sequential index thereon corresponding to the predetermined coded depth is inserted into a housing and the key to be duplicated is inserted into a slot in the housing where it engages an indexing member which enters one of the notches on the key and indicates on the card the coded depth of that notch. The angle of cut of the same notch may also be determined. The remaining notches of the key may be decoded in like manner. The same index card is then inserted into a housing which includes an indexing drum having notches therein with spacing therebetween corresponding to the predetermined coded spacing of the key to be duplicated. A blank key is firmly secured in a predetermined position on the housing and movable in a direction toward a grinding wheel. The indexing drum is indexed corresponding to the predetermined coded spacing between the notches of the key to be duplicated and the blank key is moved into cutting engagement with the grinding wheel.

Time Locks

US Patent:
40622100, Dec 13, 1977
Filed:
Jan 30, 1976
Appl. No.:
5/653892
Inventors:
Tim M. Uyeda - South San Gabriel CA
Assignee:
Sargent & Greenleaf, Inc. - Nicholasville KY
International Classification:
E05B 4300
US Classification:
70268
Abstract:
Improvements in time locks for use in safes, vaults, or the like wherein the lock includes a clockwork mechanism which can be preset to a time until which the safe or vault cannot be opened. The improvements include improved means for bypassing the clockwork mechanism should one be locked inside the safe or vault on which the lock is installed. An improved simplified housing is provided for the time lock so that the entire lock need not be disassembled if there is a malfunction of the clockwork mechanism. Improved viewing means for the time lock are provided so that the face of the clockwork mechanism can be viewed from a convenient location above and at an angle to the face of the clockwork mechanism. An anti-tampering mechanism prevents the locking bolt from being released even if the device in which the lock is installed is dropped or vibrated. Finally, various other improvements are presented in other parts of the lock, such as the release lever assembly for releasing the locking bolt.

Combination Lock

US Patent:
45327858, Aug 6, 1985
Filed:
May 19, 1983
Appl. No.:
6/496171
Inventors:
Tim M. Uyeda - South San Gabriel CA
Assignee:
La Gard, Inc. - Torrance CA
International Classification:
E05B 1516
E05B 6300
US Classification:
70333R
Abstract:
An improved lock assembly having a plurality of peripherally gated tumbler wheels supported within a housing for rotation about a common axis. A peripherally gated control cam is mounted to the tumbler wheel axis to provide cam operated movement of a fence lever and rotatably attached lock bolt between extended and retracted positions when the peripheral tumbler wheel gates are aligned. A single spring is provided for serving the dual purpose of biasing the fence lever towards the control cam and securing the fence lever to the bolt. Further, precise positioning of the lock bolt and lever when the lock bolt is moved to its extended position are provided by a three point positioning configuration in which special surfaces on the lever are moved into abutment with the lock housing. A new relock spring configuration and system is provided for preventing retraction of the lock bolt when the housing backplate is removed.
