Triple-Expanded Mechanical Pipe Coupling Derived From A Standard Fitting

View page
US Patent:
7121593, Oct 17, 2006
Filed:
Nov 19, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/299281
Inventors:
Douglas R. Dole - Whitehouse Station NJ, US
Terrance M. Carom - Allentown PA, US
Assignee:
Victaulic Company - Easton PA
International Classification:
F16L 17/00
US Classification:
285340, 285374, 285179
Abstract:
A coupling for joining pipe segments together is disclosed. The coupling is derived from a standard fitting and has a housing with a socket and a first expanded region adjacent to the socket, a second expanded region adjacent to the first expanded region and a third expanded region adjacent to the second. A sealing member is positioned in the first expanded region, a retainer is positioned in the second expanded region and a support washer having transversely oriented radial and coaxial flanges is positioned adjacent to the retainer in the third expanded region. A lip turned inwardly on the second expanded region overlaps the radial flange and captures the support washer, retainer and sealing member within the coupling. The retainer has a plurality of radial teeth angularly oriented to engage a pipe and prevent its removal from the coupling.

Slow Closing Actuator And Valve

View page
US Patent:
7404543, Jul 29, 2008
Filed:
Sep 12, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/519293
Inventors:
Richard R. Weston - Nazareth PA, US
Terrance M. Carom - Schnecksville PA, US
Assignee:
Victaulic Company - Easton PA
International Classification:
F16K 1/22
US Classification:
251305, 251286, 251288, 251304
Abstract:
A valve actuator is disclosed for use with short throw valves. The actuator includes a plate perpendicular to the valve stem that has a slot formed of regions having different radii of curvature centered on the valve stem. An eccentric cam is attached to a handle mounted on the valve stem. The cam extends through the slot and is rotatable for positioning at a radius corresponding to the radius of the different slot regions. When the cam is rotated so that it may traverse a slot region, the handle can be turned to move the valve closing member through an angle subtended by the slot region. This permits the valve to be opened or closed in a step-wise fashion and prevents rapid opening and closing of the valve that can cause a water hammer effect.

Clamping Mechanical Pipe Coupling Derived From A Standard Fitting

View page
US Patent:
7500699, Mar 10, 2009
Filed:
Nov 19, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/299164
Inventors:
Douglas R. Dole - Whitehouse Station NJ, US
Terrance M. Carom - Allentown PA, US
Assignee:
Victaulic Company - Easton PA
International Classification:
F16L 33/00
US Classification:
285340
Abstract:
A coupling for joining pipe segments together is disclosed. The coupling is derived from a standard fitting and has a housing with a socket and a first expanded region adjacent to the socket and a second expanded region adjacent to the first expanded region. A sealing member is positioned in the first expanded region, a retainer is positioned in the second expanded region and a support washer having transversely oriented radial and coaxial flanges is positioned adjacent to the retainer. A clamping tab turned inwardly on the second expanded region overlaps the radial flange and clamps the support washer and retainer against a shoulder within the second expanded region thereby also capturing the sealing member within the coupling. The retainer has a plurality of radial teeth angularly oriented to engage a pipe and prevent its removal from the coupling. The teeth are twisted about their longitudinal axes.

Abstract:
A method of making a coupling for joining pipe segments is disclosed. The method includes providing a fitting with a socket for receiving a pipe end. A first region of the fitting adjacent to the socket is expanded to a larger diameter than the socket. A second region of the fitting adjacent to the first region is expanded to a larger diameter than the first region. A third region of the fitting adjacent to the second region is expanded to a larger diameter than the second region. A sealing member is positioned in the first region, a retainer is positioned in the second region and a support washer is positioned in the third region. A lip is turned inwardly on the third expanded region to capture the components within the coupling.
