Abstract:
A digital data acquisition system for monitoring and remote testing of gas and steam turbine performance parameters which is light weight, portable and can be quickly installed and configured. The system comprises a set of instrumentation modules, each containing digital transmitters, connected to a local computer for data processing and storage. The modules are linked together into a local digital network by a universal cable connection which reduces the number of unique parts used in conventional systems. The modules are also connected to a computer to process the digital signals and collect testing data. Once installed, remote performance testing and data acquisition is enabled by connecting the computer to a remote computer via a network or modem connection. Remote testing eliminates the need for the test engineer to travel to a site. Testing data may be made available for remote access by customers or other interested parties.

Abstract:
A method for establishing communications between a distributed data acquisition system and a plurality of sensors and a controller, wherein the data acquisition system comprises at least one micro-computer, the method includes: searching for sensors assigned to a micro-computer in the data acquisition system; requesting the assigned sensors to send identifier information to the micro-computer; using the identifier information and for each assigned sensor, selecting a sensor communications protocol from a library in the micro-computer corresponding to the assigned sensor, and generating a work list of the selected communications protocols to be used in communicating with the sensors assigned to the micro-computer.

A transport device includes a first segment fixedly coupled to a wall. The transport device also includes at least one second segment coupled to the first segment. The at least one second segment includes at least one of a fluid-driven device, a rack and pinion drive device, and a carriage. The transport device further includes an automated position control system. The control system includes at least one axial positioning device coupled to the at least one second segment. The control system also includes at least one axial position feedback device coupled to at least one of the first segment and the at least one second segment.
