Multi-Level Active Filter

View page
US Patent:
20070109823, May 17, 2007
Filed:
May 16, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/435181
Inventors:
Mukul Rastogi - Monroeville PA, US
Peter Hammond - Greensburg PA, US
Stan Simms - Delmont PA, US
International Classification:
H02M 1/12
US Classification:
363040000
Abstract:
A multi-phase active filter includes a group of power cells electrically connected in a three-phase configuration, a precharging circuit, and a controller that controls the voltage delivered to the plurality of power cells. Each power cell includes an inverter having a pair of direct current (DC) terminals, at least one capacitor electrically connected in parallel with the inverter, and an energy dissipating circuit that is electrically connected in parallel with the inverter. The energy dissipating circuit of each power cell self-regulates DC voltage within the cell.

Bus Voltage Limiter For Converter Apparatus With Multiple Dc Buses

View page
US Patent:
20210089065, Mar 25, 2021
Filed:
Sep 25, 2019
Appl. No.:
16/582021
Inventors:
- Dublin 4, IE
Stan Rex Simms - Arden NC, US
International Classification:
G05F 1/46
H02M 3/156
H02M 1/32
H02P 25/16
Abstract:
An apparatus includes a first DC bus, a second DC bus a first converter circuit coupled to the first DC bus, and a second converter circuit coupled to the second DC bus. The apparatus further includes a limiter circuit coupled to the second DC bus, a first control circuit configured to sense a voltage on the first. DC bus and to responsively control the first. converter circuit to, limit the voltage on the. first ,DC bus, and a second control circuit configured to sense a voltage on the second DC bus and to responsively control the limiter circuit, to limit the voltage on the second DC bus. The apparatus may include a modulation conversion circuit configured to provide a .set of switch control signals to the converter circuits and implemented in a module that is also used to implement the second control circuit.

Adjustable Frequency Drive Systems And Methods Of Employing Power Compensation

View page
US Patent:
20200191878, Jun 18, 2020
Filed:
Dec 18, 2018
Appl. No.:
16/223865
Inventors:
- Dublin, IE
Stan Rex Simms - Arden NC, US
Thomas Arthur Farr - Candler NC, US
International Classification:
G01R 31/42
G01R 31/02
H02J 9/06
H02J 3/18
Abstract:
An apparatus, such as an adjustable frequency drive (AFD), includes an inverter configured to be selectively coupled to a motor in a first mode and an AC line in a second mode and a control circuit configured to operate the inverter as a motor drive in the first mode and as a power compensator in the second mode. The power compensator may provide power factor correction. The control circuit may include a scalar controller configured to control the inverter according to a voltage vs. frequency characteristic determined by a field weakening point reference and the control circuit may vary the field weakening point reference in the second mode. The inverter may have an input coupled to a DC bus and the control circuit may be configured to adjust a frequency of the inverter in the second mode to increase a voltage on the DC bus.

Regenerative Rectifier For A Motor Control Drive

View page
US Patent:
20160126869, May 5, 2016
Filed:
Oct 30, 2014
Appl. No.:
14/527876
Inventors:
- Cleveland OH, US
STAN REX SIMMS - Arden NC, US
Assignee:
EATON CORPORATION - Cleveland OH
International Classification:
H02P 3/14
Abstract:
A system, and associated method, fbr controlling a motor drive coupled to an AC power source in a condition wherein the motor drive is generating a regenerative current. The system includes a plurality of electronic switching devices structured to be provided in anti-parallel connection with a plurality of rectifier diodes of the motor drive, and a controller structured and configured to receive a number of phase voltages from the AC power source, determine a grid angle for the AC power source using the number of phase voltages, and generate a number of control signals for controlling the electronic switching devices using the grid angle when the motor drive is generating the regenerative current.
