Dec 10, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/331884
Inventors:
Ravishankar Ramamurthy - Westland MI, US
Shouxian Ren - Ann Arbor MI, US
International Classification:
G06N 31/00
F01N 3/00
US Classification:
702 23, 60285, 60256, 123 25 C, 701108
Abstract:
A NOestimation system includes an operating mode determination module that determines an operating mode of an engine, and an emission prediction module. The emission prediction module estimates NOemission based on the operating mode, a plurality of sensed parameters, and a map. The map correlates the plurality of sensed parameters to the NOemission based on the operating mode.

Exhaust System With Improved Noemission Control

US Patent:
8122712, Feb 28, 2012
Filed:
Apr 22, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/107302
Inventors:
Shouxian Ren - Ann Arbor MI, US
Ryu Hariyoshi - Novi MI, US
International Classification:
F01N 3/10
US Classification:
60299, 60274, 60297, 60301, 60303
Abstract:
An exhaust system includes a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) unit and a NOabsorber that may include a lean NOtrap (LNT). The NOabsorber absorbs NOand releases the NOabsorbed in the NOabsorber into the SCR unit. The SCR unit converts NOof exhaust gas into nitrogen and water.

US Patent:
8176729, May 15, 2012
Filed:
Mar 6, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/043241
Inventors:
Shouxian Ren - Ann Arbor MI, US
International Classification:
F01N 3/00
US Classification:
60286, 60274, 60297, 60301, 60303
Abstract:
An emissions control method may include injecting a fuel into an engine exhaust gas provided to a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) when a DOC operating temperature is greater than a first limit, terminating the injecting when a temperature of a catalyst in communication with exhaust gas exiting the DOC is greater than a second limit, and injecting a dosing agent into the exhaust gas after the terminating.

Apr 8, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/083024
Inventors:
Shouxian Ren - Ypsilanti MI, US
Rahul Mital - Rochester Hills MI, US
Jason Daniel Mullins - Brighton MI, US
Assignee:
GM Global Technology Operations LLC - Detroit MI
International Classification:
B01D 50/00
F01N 3/00
F01N 3/10
US Classification:
60297, 60285, 60286, 422169
Abstract:
An exhaust system for an engine comprises a selective catalytic reduction (“SCR”) device having a NOreducing selective catalytic reduction composition disposed thereon. A particulate filter is disposed in the rigid shell or canister downstream of the selective catalytic reduction device. An ammonia dosing system comprising a controller in signal communication with NOsensors located upstream and downstream of the selective catalytic reduction device for injection of ammonia into the exhaust gas upstream of the SCR device based on information collected from the NOsensors to thereby optimize the reduction of NOin the exhaust gas. An ammonia-neutral oxidation catalyst compound is disposed on the wall-flow substrate of the particulate filter device and is configured to pass through ammonia constituents of the exhaust gas exiting the selective catalytic reduction device with little or no conversion of the ammonia constituents to N2, N2O and NO.
