Filed:
Apr 2, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/695343
Inventors:
Candice Hellen Brown Elliott - Santa Rosa CA, US
SeokJin Han - Cupertino CA, US
MoonHwan Im - Cupertino CA, US
InChul Baek - Seoul, KR
Michael Francis Higgins - Cazadero CA, US
Paul Higgins - Sebastopol CA, US
Assignee:
Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. - Gyeonggi-do
International Classification:
G09G 5/10
US Classification:
345690, 345214, 345589, 345596, 345597, 345598, 345613, 345643, 348254, 358519, 382167
Abstract:
Sub-pixel rendering with gamma adjustment allows the luminance for the sub-pixel arrangement to match the non-linear gamma response of the human eye's luminance channel, while the chrominance can match the linear response of the human eye's chrominance channels. The gamma correction allows the sub-pixel rendering to operate independently of the actual gamma of a display device. The sub-pixel rendering techniques with gamma adjustment may be optimized for the gamma transfer curve of a display device in order to improve response time, dot inversion balance, and contrast.

Memory Structures For Image Processing

View page
US Patent:
20090278855, Nov 12, 2009
Filed:
Apr 15, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/103692
Inventors:
SeokJin Han - Cupertino CA, US
Thomas Lloyd Credelle - Morgan Hill CA, US
International Classification:
G09G 5/02
US Classification:
345590, 345560
Abstract:
A display system comprises line buffer memory that stores input image data in a first color space, and a plurality of gamut mapping modules that accept the input image data from the line buffer memory and performs a gamut mapping operation to produce mapped image data specified in a second color space. The system also includes a subpixel rendering module that renders the image data specified in the second color space for display on a display panel substantially comprised of a particular subpixel repeating group. The system architecture utilizes a plurality of gamut mapping modules which in turn allows for a reduction in the size of line buffer memory needed for the subpixel rendering operation.

Methods And Systems For Sub-Pixel Rendering With Gamma Adjustment

US Patent:
7623141, Nov 24, 2009
Filed:
May 11, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/747398
Inventors:
Candice Hellen Brown Elliott - Santa Rosa CA, US
SeokJin Han - Cupertino CA, US
MoonHwan Im - Cupertino CA, US
InChul Baek - Seoul, KR
Michael Francis Higgins - Cazadero CA, US
Paul Higgins - Sebastopol CA, US
Assignee:

International Classification:
G09G 5/10
US Classification:
345690, 345214, 345589, 345596, 345597, 345613, 382167, 382272, 382274, 348254, 358519
Abstract:
Sub-pixel rendering with gamma adjustment allows the luminance of the sub-pixel arrangement to match the non-linear gamma response of the human eye's luminance channel. For each of a subset of input sampled data indicating a region of an input image, a gamma-adjusted data value is generated for each input image data value in the subset using a local average of at least two input image data values. A sub-pixel rendering operation uses the subset of gamma-adjusted data values and the subset of input image data values to produce an output data value for each sub-pixel element on the display panel. A plurality of output data values collectively indicates an output image. The gamma adjustment allows the sub-pixel rendering to operate independently of the actual gamma of a display device. The sub-pixel rendering techniques with gamma adjustment may improve image contrast in high spatial frequency portions of an image.

Color Filter Arrays For Tir-Based Image Displays

US Patent:
20210132435, May 6, 2021
Filed:
Jul 3, 2019
Appl. No.:
17/257473
Inventors:
- WAN CHAI, HK
SEOKJIN HAN - CUPERTINO CA, US
ROBERT J. FLEMING - SAN JOSE CA, US
CANDICE BROWN ELLIOT - SANTA ROSA CA, US
Assignee:
CONCORD (HK) INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION LIMITED - WAN CHAI
International Classification:
G02F 1/1335
G02F 1/16766
G02F 1/1685
F21V 8/00
G02F 1/1677
G02F 1/167
G09G 3/34
Abstract:
Color may be achieved in TIR-based image displays by addition of a sub-pixel color filter array (CFA). Color may be enhanced by tuning the size, shape, arrangement and colors of the sub-pixel color filters in the CFA. CFAs comprising of pixels further comprising one to four or more different repeating sub-pixel color filters may be capable of creating a wide gamut of displayable colors. The sub-pixels may be arranged in repeat cells wherein the sub-pixels within the repeat cell may be mapped to one or more pixels. Sub-pixel rendering may be used during driving of a TIR-based display. Sub-pixel rendering uses logical dynamic pixels where a single sub-pixel may be used in one or more pixels depending on the image displayed.
