Manipulation Resistant Combination Lock With Magnets

View page
US Patent:
54739195, Dec 12, 1995
Filed:
Feb 28, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/202648
Inventors:
Roy T. Abner - Lexington KY
Brian D. Costley - Nicholasville KY
Assignee:
Sargent & Greenleaf, Inc. - Nicholasville KY
International Classification:
E05B 3708
E05B 4700
US Classification:
70276
Abstract:
A manipulation resistant combination lock is shown which has a housing, a drive shaft, a cam driver attached to the drive shaft, a bolt slidable into and out of the housing, a fence lever, a fence attached to the fence lever, and a set of tumbler wheels. A first end of the fence lever is pivotally attached to the bolt, and a second end of the fence lever has a dog which is engagable with a slot in the outer periphery of the cam driver. The cam driver is keyed to the drive shaft and holds two circumferentially spaced permanent magnets, one on each side of the slot. The dog portion of the fence lever also has a permanent magnet mounted thereon. The permanent magnets mounted on the cam driver and on the dog portion of the fence lever are arranged such that opposing magnetic poles generate a repulsive force as the fence lever approaches both sides of the slot in the cam driver. This feature prevents a lock manipulator from detecting the precise location of the cam driver slot and therefore precludes the possibility of detecting the location of gates in the tumbler wheels that would line up with the fence at the point where the cam driver slot lines up with the dog on the fence lever.

Motorized Electronic Lock

View page
US Patent:
54739225, Dec 12, 1995
Filed:
Dec 13, 1993
Appl. No.:
8/165630
Inventors:
David R. Bair - Lexington KY
Hamid S. Abroy - Lexington KY
Roy T. Abner - Lexington KY
Assignee:
Sargent & Greenleaf, Inc. - Nicholasville KY
International Classification:
E05B 4702
US Classification:
70416
Abstract:
A motorized electronic lock is disclosed including an electric motor, a screw powered by the motor, a nut threadedly engaged with the screw and having two extending arms projecting therefrom, one of which arms is a cam follower arm that rides along a cam surface on a cam bracket, and the other of which is a locking arm that is engageable with a slot in a bolt in order to provide a dead-bolting feature for the bolt, and a relocking spring which is either held out of the way of the bolt by a downwardly extending leg of the cam bracket or is biased to a position behind the bolt, blocking the bolt from being able to retract.

Network Connectivity Module For Electro-Mechanical Locks

View page
US Patent:
20180108196, Apr 19, 2018
Filed:
Sep 6, 2017
Appl. No.:
15/696356
Inventors:
Roy T. Abner - Lexington KY, US
International Classification:
G07C 9/00
Abstract:
A network connectivity module may provide additional or alternative functionality to a lock that secures a securable container, such as a safe or automated teller machine. The module may be installed in a communication pathway between a keypad and the lock. The module may be programmed to communicate with a plurality of different locks manufactured by different manufacturers. The module may include a network input/output interface, which may provide a wired or wireless connection to one or more external networks, such as the Internet. The additional or alternative functionality may provide a new feature set for the lock that was not available at the time of purchase or installation of the lock. Additionally or alternatively, the connectivity to the external networks may enable remote access to the module, and may enable a remote user to enable or disable functionality of the module, and/or access to the securable container.
