Method Of Cutting And Sealing Material

View page
US Patent:
20020148555, Oct 17, 2002
Filed:
Apr 10, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/119986
Inventors:
Robert Vigder - Dayton OH, US
Assignee:
Omega International - Dayton OH
International Classification:
B32B031/00
US Classification:
156/250000
Abstract:
A method of cutting and sealing material including providing a cutting and sealing rule defining a cutting edge and a sealing surface, and providing a cooperating anvil member adjacent to the cutting and sealing rule. A material having at least two layers is provided located between the anvil member and the cutting and sealing rule. The cutting and sealing rule includes a cutting blade edge and a sealing surface extending transversely to a plane of the cutting blade edge. The cutting and sealing rule is brought into engagement with the material to be cut whereby the material is simultaneously cut and sealed along an edge adjacent the cut as a result of compressive force applied to the material at the cut edge.

Pneumatic Scrap Reduction System For Rotary Die Cutter

View page
US Patent:
47810882, Nov 1, 1988
Filed:
Dec 23, 1987
Appl. No.:
7/137489
Inventors:
Barry J. O'Connor - Anderson IN
Robert B. Vigder - Dayton OH
Assignee:
Corfine Inc. - Muncie IN
International Classification:
B26D 162
B26D 500
B65H 2032
US Classification:
83 38
Abstract:
A rotary die cutter system minimizes the amount of scrap between successive blanks cut from web material by holding the web against backward movement at a position spaced upstream from the nip defined by the die and anvil cylinders, retracting the cut leading end of the web through a predetermined distance by means of a fluid pressure cylinder in response to release of the web by the cut-off knife at the trailing edge of the die on the die cylinder such that on the next cycle, the leading edge of the die will engage the web at a position spaced so close to the retracted leading end of the web that contiguous portions of a single blank can be cut from the web during successive revolutions of the die cylinder.

Rotary Die Cutters

US Patent:
55157572, May 14, 1996
Filed:
Feb 22, 1993
Appl. No.:
8/022149
Inventors:
Barry J. O'Connor - Anderson IN
Robert B. Vigder - Dayton OH
Assignee:
Corfine, Inc. - Muncie IN
International Classification:
B26D 162
US Classification:
83347
Abstract:
A removable and replaceable cover assembly for use on an anvil roll in a rotary die cutter in combination with a die roll equipped with non-serrated cutting blades consists essentially of inner and outer tubular layers of elastomeric material of different degrees of hardness, the outer layer being substantially harder than the inner layer. Since this tubular cover must be mounted on an anvil roll by relative endwise movement, the cover is disclosed in combination with a rotary die cutter having special provision for temporary removal, recovering and remounting of the anvil roll.

Die Cutter Blanket

US Patent:
50761285, Dec 31, 1991
Filed:
Apr 26, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/515005
Inventors:
Barry J. O'Connor - Muncie IN
Robert B. Vigder - Muncie IN
International Classification:
B26D 720
US Classification:
83659
Abstract:
A replaceable cover for the cylindrical anvil of a rotary die cutter includes a blanket body of elastically deformable material, a sheet metal liner for the blanket body, and a latch assembly for securing the ends of the cover together in a lengthwise slot in the face of the anvil roll. This cover is particularly designed for use with a prior art anvil roll wherein the slot in the face of the roll has opposed parallel sides which extend at right angles to the bottom of the slot, and each of which is provided with a groove along its lower edge that forms an extension of the slot bottom. The latch assembly includes a channel member having one side secured to one end of the blanket liner so that the open side of the channel faces the other end of the blanket body for interlocking cooperation with a latch member integrally formed on the other end of the blanket body. The radially inner side of this channel member is sufficiently wider than the slot in the anvil roll so that its edge extends into one of the grooves in the corners of the slot in the anvil roll in the assembled condition of the latch assembly.
