Submersible Electrical Power Supply

View page
US Patent:
48088374, Feb 28, 1989
Filed:
Feb 18, 1986
Appl. No.:
6/830396
Inventors:
Brian P. Matthias - San Diego CA
Richard Mursinna - San Diego CA
Daniel Gravitz - San Diego CA
Assignee:
Honeywell Inc. - Minneapolis MN
International Classification:
F03B 1308
US Classification:
290 54
Abstract:
An electrical generator in a water impermeable housing is driven by a water driven motor. The combination can be submersed with power delivered from the generator to a hydro-subsystem. The system is intrinsically safe in that all electronics are submerged during operation, thus any sparks emitted will not trigger secondary explosions in the surrounding environment. The supply is particularly useful in conjunction with submersible, remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), and diver assist power supply.

Submersible Rov For Cleaning And Inspecting Metal

View page
US Patent:
48216658, Apr 18, 1989
Filed:
Feb 26, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/163171
Inventors:
Brian P. Matthias - San Diego CA
Richard C. Mursinna - San Diego CA
Felixberto A. Galasan - San Diego CA
Assignee:
Honeywell Inc. - Minneapolis MN
International Classification:
B63B 5908
US Classification:
114222
Abstract:
A submersible ROV removes extraneous material from the surface of submerged metal with a cleaning tool and measures the thickness of the metal with an ultrasonic probe. A camera allows visual operation of the ROV. The cleaning tool and ultrasonic probe can reach areas of limited access making the ROV useful for inspecting the interior of holding tanks. A submersible, electrical power supply can be combined with the ROV to provide an intrinsically safe system which is particularly useful in environments where sparks pose a substantial hazard.

US Patent:
48600385, Aug 22, 1989
Filed:
Apr 29, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/188716
Inventors:
Herbert vH. Thatcher - Encinitas CA
Richard C. Mursinna - San Diego CA
Richard E. Tackabery - Carlsbad CA
Assignee:
Honeywell Inc. - Minneapolis MN
International Classification:
G03B 1756
H04N 526
US Classification:
354 64
Abstract:
A camera, means for varying the direction of the field of view of the camera and means for focusing the camera are all secured within a water-tight enclosure. The enclosure has a transparent viewing port and is spherical or near spherical. No moving parts extend beyond the enclosure and a single cable housing contains all wires and control lines leading to the enclosure.
