Wireless Communication Method And Apparatus For Reliably Transmitting Data

View page
US Patent:
7768961, Aug 3, 2010
Filed:
Jun 16, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/154842
Inventors:
Ravikumar V. Pragada - Collegeville PA, US
William Francoeur - Royersford PA, US
Assignee:
InterDigital Technology Corporation - Wilmington DE
International Classification:
H04J 3/00
H04J 3/24
H04W 4/00
US Classification:
370328, 370464, 370473
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for reliably transmitting data by transmitting a plurality of radio link control (RLC) unacknowledged mode (UM) protocol data units (PDUs) over at least one primary channel and at least one auxiliary channel. If at least one RLC UM PDU is missing from the data transmitted over the primary channel, the missing RLC UM PDU is obtained from the auxiliary channel after a predetermined delay. A service data unit (SDU) is completed by combining PDUs received over the primary channel with at least one missing PDU received over the auxiliary channel. The SDU is sent to an application layer. If the missing PDU cannot be obtained before a predetermined time period expires, the transmitted data is deleted. The RLC UM PDUs may be used for streaming multicast applications.

Method And Apparatus For Sharing Desired Information Among Wireless Transmit/Receive Units

View page
US Patent:
20070053333, Mar 8, 2007
Filed:
Oct 31, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/264330
Inventors:
Ravikumar Pragada - Collegeville PA, US
Assignee:
InterDigital Technology Corporation - Wilmington DE
International Classification:
H04Q 7/24
US Classification:
370338000
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for sharing information among a plurality of wireless transmit/receive units (WTRUs) in a wireless communication system comprises a first WTRU in the wireless communication system broadcasting a request for desired information. A second WTRU in the wireless communication system searches a memory of the second WTRU for the desired information and responds to the broadcast by indicating to the first WTRU that it is capable of providing the desired information. The first WTRU requests that the second WTRU provide the desired information, and the second WTRU retrieves the desired information from the memory in the second WTRU and sends the desired information to the first WTRU.

Information Life-Cycle Management Architecture For A Device With Infinite Storage Capacity

View page
US Patent:

Debashish Purkayastha - Pottstown PA, US
Assignee:
InterDigital Technology Corporation - Wilmington DE
International Classification:
G06F 17/30
US Classification:
707204000
Abstract:
A system for information life-cycle management includes a metadata depicter, a policy manager, a data manager, and a data organizer. The metadata depicter is configured to create metadata for an attribute of a data type. The policy manager is configured to apply the metadata as a rule to data records of the data type. The data manager is configured to control at least one data storage device, and operates under the direction of the policy manager. The data organizer is configured to determine how data is organized on the storage devices, and operates under the direction of the policy manager.

Method And Apparatus For Combined Medium Access Control And Radio Link Control Processing

View page
US Patent:
20090238124, Sep 24, 2009
Filed:
Nov 7, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/267105
Inventors:
Ravikumar V. Pragada - Collegeville PA, US
Edward L. Hepler - Malvern PA, US
Jean-Louis Gauvreau - La Prairie, CA
Paul Marinier - Brossard, CA
Jeffrey T. Davis - Doylestown PA, US
Shiehlie Wang - Plymouth Meeting PA, US
Assignee:
INTERDIGITAL TECHNOLOGY CORPORATION - Wilmington DE
International Classification:
H04W 72/04
US Classification:
370329
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for combined medium access control (MAC) and radio link control (RLC) processing are disclosed. For uplink processing, a combined MAC/RLC (CMR) entity generates an SDU descriptor and allocates protocol data unit (PDU) descriptor resources. A protocol engine (PE) populates a PDU descriptor for each PDU carrying at least a portion of the SDU and generates a MAC PDU in a physical layer shared memory based on the SDU descriptor and the PDU descriptor. The MAC PDU is generated while moving RLC SDU data from the bulk memory to the physical layer shared memory. For downlink processing, received MAC PDUs are stored in the physical layer shared memory. The PE reads MAC and RLC headers in the MAC PDU and populates an SDU segment descriptor (SD) and corresponding PDU descriptors for each SDU segment. The CMR entity merges SDU SDs that comprise a same RLC SDU.
