US Patent:
20020089747, Jul 11, 2002
Filed:
Jan 9, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/756898
Inventors:
Ranald Hay - New York NY, US
International Classification:
G02B005/30
G02B027/28
US Classification:
359/493000, 359/485000, 359/500000, 359/601000
Abstract:
A visibility-enhancing system includes an adjustment mechanism for adjusting the polarization of a light source relative to the polarization of a viewing filter, so as to improve visual contrast between interposing media and an object to be viewed. The light source includes a light generation mechanism for generating polarized light, and an optional source polarization angle determination mechanism for adjusting the angle of polarization of the light source. The viewing filter includes a filter polarization angle adjustment mechanism for adjusting at least one of the polarization angle of maximum light attenuation and the polarization angle of minimum light attenuation. An observer adjusts at least one of the source polarization angle determination mechanism and the filter polarization angle adjustment mechanism so as to improve the visibility of the object to be viewed in the presence of interposing media.

Abstract:
A visibility-enhancing system includes an adjustment mechanism for adjusting the polarization of a light source relative to the polarization of a viewing filter, so as to provide adjustable control of visual contrast between interposing media and an object to be viewed. US Patent:
20060285207, Dec 21, 2006
Filed:
Aug 25, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/509911
Inventors:
Ranald Hay - Bexley OH, US
International Classification:
G02B 27/28
US Classification:
359493000
Abstract:
Systems and methods that utilize an adjustment mechanism for adjusting the polarization angle of a light source relative to the polarization angle of a viewing filter, so as to permit adjustment of visual contrast between interposed specular media and an object to be viewed and/or photographed, wherein the interposed specular media is an atmospheric phenomenon comprising a seemingly infinite number of dispersed specularly reflective particles enveloping at least one of an observer or a scene of interest.

Method Of Manufacturing Partially Roasted Coffee Beans And A Combination Roasting And Brewing Device

View page
US Patent:
20130180406, Jul 18, 2013
Filed:
Nov 19, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/681023
Inventors:
Ranald Joseph Hay - Bexley OH, US
Kate Brooks Hay - Bexley OH, US
International Classification:
A23F 5/04
A47J 31/42
US Classification:
99286, 426466, 426392, 426112
Abstract:
Exemplary embodiments disclosed herein provide a method for producing primary roasted coffee beans where green coffee beans are roasted only until the point where the beans have reached the end of the primary roasting phase, where the beans are then quenched to stop the roasting process. In some embodiments, the end of the primary roasting phase is marked by the beans reaching the first crack stage. A disposable package containing primary roasted beans is also disclosed. A device for roasting and brewing ground coffee beans is also disclosed, the device having a porous container which accepts the ground coffee beans; a roasting container which accepts the porous container and has a sidewall containing an aperture; a fan and heating element positioned to force hot air through the aperture; a water containment vessel and heating subassembly positioned above the roasting container; and a water release valve assembly positioned between the water containment vessel and the roasting container.

US Patent:
20210076867, Mar 18, 2021
Filed:
May 8, 2019
Appl. No.:
17/054425
Inventors:
Kate Hay - Mount Vernon NY, US
Ranald Hay - Bexley OH, US
International Classification:
A47J 31/42
A47J 31/36
A47J 31/46
A47J 31/06
A47J 31/52
Abstract:
Exemplary embodiments herein provide a device for finish roasting and brewing primary roasted and ground coffee beans. Preferably a pod handle assembly contains the primary roasted and ground coffee beans and removably connects with a roaster brewer assembly which performs both a roasting phase of hot air followed by a brewing phase of hot water and/or steam. A user selection dial (or other input) allows a user to select a desired roast level, preferably from very light to very dark. The pod handle assembly can be filled manually by the user, or pre-filled pods which already contain the primary roasted and ground beans may be used. Airflow from a fan should preferably be directed through a heating assembly before contacting the ground coffee beans and exiting through an aperture at the bottom of the pod handle assembly.
