Pre-Cut Fibrous Insulation Batt And Method Of Making The Batt

View page
US Patent:
6484463, Nov 26, 2002
Filed:
May 7, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/851175
Inventors:
Ralph Michael Fay - Lakewood CO
Assignee:
Johns Manville International, Inc. - Denver CO
International Classification:
E04B 174
US Classification:
524044, 52 98, 52100, 523094, 524062, 428 43, 428 55, 428 74, 428 77, 428138
Abstract:
A resilient pre-cut fibrous insulation blanket includes first and second insulation blankets. The blankets each have a first major surface with one or more longitudinally extending cuts in the surface that are spaced inwardly from lateral edges of the surface and spaced apart from each other. The cuts only partially sever the blankets to form separable connectors in the blankets that join adjacent blanket sections formed by the cuts. The first major surfaces of the blankets are bonded to each other, with the cuts in the major surfaces of the blankets aligned longitudinally, to form a batt with longitudinally extending batt sections joined by the separable connectors in the blankets whereby the batt can be handled as a unit or one or more batt sections can be separated from the remainder of the batt by hand to form a batt of lesser width.

Filed:
Sep 28, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/672746
Inventors:
Ralph Michael Fay - Lakewood CO
William D. Blalock - Highlands Ranch CO
Assignee:
Johns Manville International, Inc. - Denver CO
International Classification:
E04B 188
US Classification:
428 401, 524041, 524061, 524062, 428 417, 428 418, 428 68, 428 71, 428 74, 428 76, 428192, 428194
Abstract:
A fibrous insulation batt is encapsulated within an envelope to form an encapsulated insulation batt assembly. The envelope has pressure sensitive adhesive on lateral flanges or surfaces of the envelope for securing the encapsulated insulation batt assembly to spaced-apart frame members defining a cavity to be insulated. Release liners, on surfaces of the envelope or the lateral flanges, which overlay and are releasably secured to the pressure sensitive adhesive, are removed from the pressure sensitive adhesive immediately prior to bonding the encapsulated insulation batt assembly to the spaced-apart frame members. Preferably, the release liners for the pressure sensitive adhesive are contact areas on the surfaces of the envelope or the lateral flanges coated or otherwise treated with a release agent.

Jun 16, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/595483
Inventors:
Rebecca S. Wulliman - Englewood CO
Ralph Michael Fay - Lakewood CO
Assignee:
Johns Manville International, Inc. - Denver CO
International Classification:
B32B 2712
US Classification:
442 1, 442394, 442397, 442344, 442414, 442417, 442 82, 442 85, 442 86, 442169, 428347, 428421, 428920, 428 27, 428 40, 428138
Abstract:
A burn through and flame propagation resistant system, includes a sheet of burn through and flame propagation resistant paper made of aramid fibers, mica flakes, and aramid fibrid binder; and one or more sheets of polymeric film, preferably, flame propagation resistant polymeric film, bonded to at least one major surface of the sheet of burn through and flame propagation resistant paper to form a laminated sheet. Preferably, for many applications, the system is also water vapor transmission resistant with the sheet or sheets of polymeric film or a coating providing the water vapor transmission resistance. The burn through and flame propagation resistant paper and/or polymeric film(s) may have major surface(s) coated with a heat sealable adhesive, e. g. for securing the laminated sheet to itself or another laminated sheet to form a bag or envelope for encapsulating insulation. The laminated sheet may be used as a covering or bag that encapsulates insulation material or as a layer overlaying, intermediate or underlaying one or more layers of insulation material.

Acoustic Media

US Patent:
6630222, Oct 7, 2003
Filed:
Jun 16, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/595484
Inventors:
Ralph Michael Fay - Lakewood CO
Lawrence J. Gelin - Littleton CO
Assignee:
Johns Manville International, Inc. - Denver CO
International Classification:
B32B 312
US Classification:
428118, 428116, 428 12, 428188, 52144, 5250601, 181210, 181286, 181287, 181288, 181290, 160348, 160 8405
Abstract:
An acoustic medium for temporary acoustic treatment of a room is formed from one or more continuous curtains, preferably, with pleated first and second major surfaces. Each pleated curtain preferably has one or more series of collapsible elongated tubular sections which form the pleats that make up the major surfaces of the curtain. Since the elongated tubular sections are collapsible, the curtain can be retracted by collapsing the elongated tubular sections and extended by opening the elongated tubular sections. The mat materials forming the elongated tubular sections and the pleated major surfaces of the curtain provide the curtain with an airflow resistance through the curtain, in a direction generally perpendicular to the planes containing the apexes of the pleats forming the first and second major surfaces of the curtain, that has the desired properties for absorbing or reflecting sound.
