Wheel Insert Attachment System

View page
US Patent:
8382211, Feb 26, 2013
Filed:
Jul 15, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/836649
Inventors:
Paul W. Renius - Metamora MI, US
Mark A. Voss - Richmond MI, US
Derek L. Patterson - Shelby Township MI, US
Assignee:
GM Global Technology Operations LLC - Detroit MI
International Classification:
B60B 7/06
US Classification:
301 37102, 301 37106
Abstract:
An ornamental wheel insert utilizing a snap-fit attachment to a wheel. In a first embodiment, fingers carrying bosses are attached to an insert body, wherein when the insert body is seated the bosses snappingly engage a boss abutment of the wheel. In a second embodiment, a snap ring snappingly engages the insert body from the inside of the wheel to thereby securely seat the insert body at the wheel.

Attachment Member With Integral Adhesive Channel And Method

View page
US Patent:
8585859, Nov 19, 2013
Filed:
Feb 14, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/372903
Inventors:
Paul W. Renius - Metamora MI, US
David T. Renke - Macomb MI, US
Assignee:
GM Global Technology Operations LLC - Detroit MI
International Classification:
B29C 65/54
US Classification:
156305, 1563031, 156295
Abstract:
An attachment member including an integral adhesive channel and a method of adhering an attachment member to a substrate includes adhering the member to the substrate using a first adhesive attached to the member to form a gap between the substrate and a bonding surface of the member defined by a perimeter edge. The first adhesive may be a pressure sensitive adhesive. The member defines a channel including a first opening configured to receive a second adhesive, which may be a flowable adhesive. The channel includes a second opening in fluid communication with the bonding surface. After adhering the member to the substrate with the first adhesive, the flowable adhesive is dispensed through the channel and into the gap such that the dispensed flowable adhesive is contained in the gap within the perimeter edge of the bonding surface. The flowable adhesive forms a bond between the substrate and the member.

Windshield Wiper Assembly With Unitary Arm And Post

View page
US Patent:
20080276401, Nov 13, 2008
Filed:
May 10, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/746663
Inventors:
Paul W. Renius - Metamora MI, US
Sheryl Wolf - Royal Oak MI, US
David A. Pritchard - Tecumseh, CA
Assignee:
GM GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS, INC. - DETROIT MI
International Classification:
B60S 1/34
US Classification:
152503
Abstract:
A windshield wiper assembly is provided having a unitary wiper arm and post, and a mechanical linkage for receiving the post and moving the arm. The post has a breakaway feature for breaking the post in response to impact. The wiper includes a head partially containing a center post and a button biased with a spring and connected to the center post for releasing the post from the linkage. The post and linkage include a captive ball and mating groove that are mutually engageable for securing the post to the linkage. Alternately, the post has a quick-connect end having a groove and the linkage has a receiving portion with a retractable collar and captive ball bearings. A vehicle is also provided including a windshield, a windshield wiper having a post, a wiper motor, and a mechanical linkage having an opening for receiving the post and powering the wiper.

Apparatus For Apertured Attachment Of Metal Sheets

View page
US Patent:
20090107205, Apr 30, 2009
Filed:
Oct 29, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/926167
Inventors:
Paul W. Renius - Metamora MI, US
David D. Vu - Northville MI, US
Assignee:
GM GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS, INC. - DETROIT MI
International Classification:
B21D 28/26
B21D 22/00
US Classification:
72358, 72347, 723792
Abstract:
Apparatus attaches together stacked upper and lower metal sheets and provides a reinforced aperture. A lower die has a die groove and an opening in the center of the die groove. An upper die has an annular end face that registers with the die groove and a spring-loaded reciprocable punch button that registers with the opening. A hollow ring-shaped grommet has an annular upper end flange engaged by the annular end face of the upper die and an axially extending tubular wall longer than the stacked thickness of the sheets. A metal piercing point at the terminal end of the axially extending wall pierces through the stacked upper and lower sheets and into engagement with the die groove of the lower die to progressively bend the axially extending wall radially outward and upward into engagement with the lower sheet, thereby attaching the sheet together and providing a reinforced aperture.
