Pressure Cast Concrete Or Mortar Lined Steel Pipes And Methods Of Making The Same

View page
US Patent:
8069880, Dec 6, 2011
Filed:
Apr 2, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/061263
Inventors:
Ralph S. Friedrich - Hermosa Beach CA, US
Qizhong Sheng - Cerritos CA, US
Paul Kubat - La Mirada CA, US
Assignee:
Ameron International Corporation - Pasadena CA
International Classification:
F16L 9/00
B28B 5/00
US Classification:
138176, 138143, 138146, 138175, 138DIG 5, 264228, 264516
Abstract:
Pressure cast lined steel pipes comprise an annular concrete or mortar liner along an inside diameter, and a metal shell surrounding the liner, wherein the liner is in direct contact with the metal shell. The wall thickness of the liner can be from 10 to 50 times the thickness of the metal shell. The pipe may be coated with a dielectric material. A mold assembly used to form the pipe includes an annular concrete or mortar composition chamber formed between the metal shell and an inner mold member. Pressurized water is used in the mold assembly to pressurize the concrete or mortar composition and exert a desired pressure force onto the metal shell while the composition cures in the mold. Once a desired degree of cure is achieved, the pressure is removed causing the metal shell to exert a desired compression force onto the cured liner.

Self-Actuating Molds For Vertically Casting Concrete Pipe

View page
US Patent:
57140804, Feb 3, 1998
Filed:
May 5, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/435885
Inventors:
Ming C. Kuo - Cerritos CA
Paul Kubat - La Mirada CA
Assignee:
Ameron International Corporation - Pasadena CA
International Classification:
B22C 1310
B29C 3320
B29C 4140
US Classification:
249 63
Abstract:
A gated mold for casting concrete pipe requires no wedges or bolts for securement. A core mold may be contracted by lifting at an actuation point, and expanded by resting on a base ring. An external mold may be expanded by lifting at an actuation point, and contracted by resting on a base ring. The mold gates are opened and closed with sets of collapsing links pivotably attached to a longitudinally extending actuation column. Longitudinal motion of the actuation column forces the links to collapse or extend, thereby expanding or contracting the mold. Appropriately positioned actuation and lifting points are provided such that the mold can be lifted vertically along the longitudinal axis containing the mold center of gravity.

Double Containment Pipe Mechanical Joints

View page
US Patent:
59347120, Aug 10, 1999
Filed:
Feb 14, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/800318
Inventors:
Ralph S. Friedrich - Hermosa Beach FL
Paul Kubat - La Mirada CA
Assignee:
Ameron International Corporation - Pasadena CA
International Classification:
F16L 3750
F16L 4704
F16L 17067
US Classification:
28512315
Abstract:
A double containment coupling is used to form a mechanical joint between double containment pipes. The coupling has an inner primary member within an outer secondary member. Two seals, one on top of the other, are fitted on top of the primary pipe which extends beyond the secondary pipe of the double containment pipe. The coupling inner member is fitted over the primary pipe and seals. An inner locking nut is threaded on the coupling inner member outer surface pushing a thrust ring onto one of the seals, sliding the seal over the other seal compressing and energizing both seals so as to create a seal between the primary pipe and the coupling inner member. A first end of a closure member is threaded onto the outer surface of the coupling outer member. An outer locking nut threaded on a second end of the closure member compresses a seal between the closure member and the secondary pipe creating a seal between the closure member and the secondary pipe outer surface.

Fire Resistant Sprinkler Coupling

View page
US Patent:
57160775, Feb 10, 1998
Filed:
May 6, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/642218
Inventors:
Ralph S. Friedrich - Hermosa Beach CA
Paul Kubat - La Mirada CA
Assignee:
Ameron International Corporation - Pasadena CA
International Classification:
F16L 5912
US Classification:
285 45
Abstract:
A fire resistant sprinkler coupling for fire resistant composite pipe having a stainless steel pipe coupling having a first portion for attachment of a nozzle and a second portion adapted to receive a nipple. The nipple extends through a wall of the composite fire resistant pipe and into a stainless steel anchor sleeve for securing the pipe coupling to the composite fire pipe. An outer protective jacket is positioned on an outer surface of the composite fire steel sleeve and insulation pipe around the nipple and at least a portion of the pipe coupling. The outer protective jacket comprises a stainless steel sleeve and an insulation layer. Alternatively, the outer protective jacket includes a structural wall comprising layers of helically wound reenforcing fiber that is bonded together with a thermoset polymer resin selected from the group consisting of phenolic resins, siloxane-modified phenolic resins, furan resins, and mixtures thereof. At least one fire resistant layer is applied to the surface of the structural wall. The fire resistant layer includes a fibrous carrier component impregnated with a resin selected from the same group of resins used to form the structural wall.
