An implantable esophageal sphincter apparatus with an adjustable band to be placed at the lower part of the esophagus. The inflation of the band, or sphincter body, can be increased or decreased to adjust the tightness of the device. The inflatable sphincter body may be wrapped around the esophagus and may be connected to an inflation device with a fluid reservoir. The inflation device may have a pump mechanism that will respond to external control to increase or decrease the inflation of the sphincter body. The sphincter apparatus will be held in place at the area of implantation by sutures and by fenestration mechanisms, which will allow ingrowths of tissue or fibrous elements of the body around the sphincter apparatus or into porous materials on the sphincter apparatus. The apparatus may also include a circumferential shield on a distal side of the sphincter apparatus. The shield is adapted to fit against the distal or lower side of the patients diaphragm and inhibits the development of a hiatus hernia, that is, a protrusion of the stomach past the diaphragm through the passage for the esophagus.

A bite block for upper gastrointestinal endoscopy having a tubular body with a proximal end and a distal end and defining a channel open at the proximal and distal ends, a shield connected to the tubular body at the proximal end, and a tongue depressor connected to the tubular body at the distal end. The tongue depressor comprises a plate connected to a bottom side of the distal end of the tubular body and is curved downwardly. The bite block has a chamber open to the channel in the bite block. A viscous bio-compatible lubricant in said chamber can contact and coat the end of an endoscope or other instrument when the instrument is inserted through the bite block. A removable tab can be pulled away from an opening into the chamber to expose the lubricant after the bite block has been placed in a patient's mouth. A lumen extends from the proximal end to the distal end of the tubular body, through the wall of the tubular body. An additional cannula or needle may be inserted through the lumen past the bite block and into the back of the throat, while isolating the additional needle from the endoscope.

Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a disposable sheath for an endoscope device. The endoscope sheath includes an elongated conduit including a first end and a second end. The elongated conduit is configured with a plurality of hollow ports extending from a proximal portion to a distal portion of the elongated conduit. Further, the sheath includes a shield body member including a first flap member and a second flap member extending from the first end and the second end, respectively. The first flap member and the second flap member are operated between a closed position and an open position for encasing the endoscope device for performing an endoscopy. The sheath includes an endoscope cap adapted to releasably engage with a portion of the elongated conduit and the shield body member encompassing a distal end of the endoscope device.
