View page
US Patent:
7941797, May 10, 2011
Filed:
Oct 27, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/260576
Inventors:
Nikhil Gupta - Cedar Park TX, US
Jeffrey M. Achtermann - Austin TX, US
Brian G. Vassberg - Austin TX, US
Bryan R. Moore - Georgetown TX, US
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06F 9/44
US Classification:
717170, 717169, 717173
Abstract:
A mechanism is provided for providing a native code library from a server to an application written in an interpreted programming language for execution on a remote computer. An installer object is invoked from within a main class of the interpreted programming language application. The install object extracts a file list from the server including at least one native code library filename indicating a native code library. The native code library indicated by the native code library filename is installed to a target directory on the remote computer and the main class of the interpreted programming language application is then invoked on the remote computer. Additional native code library dependencies are also installed to the target directory on the remote computer.

US Patent:
8127288, Feb 28, 2012
Filed:
Jan 17, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/333451
Inventors:
Bryan R. Moore - Georgetown TX, US
Nikhil Gupta - Cedar Park TX, US
Jeffrey M. Achtermann - Austin TX, US
Victor G. Yiu - Austin TX, US
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06F 9/445
US Classification:
717178, 718 1, 717175
Abstract:
A mechanism is provided for executing an interpreted programming language application from a server at a designated virtual machine on a client computer. A manifest file is extracted which indicates at least one resource for the interpreted programming language application as well as the repository file that provides the at least one resource. The repository file is located in a web start cache and copied to a run directory accessible by the designated virtual machine, outside the web start cache. After terminating the web start application, a particular virtual machine is designated from a plurality of virtual machines based upon the run directory to which the bootstrap class copied the resource repository file thereby forming the designated virtual machine. The interpreted programming language application is then executed from the run directory using the at least one resource.

The repository file is located in a web start cache and moved to a run directory accessible by the designated virtual machine, outside the web start cache. The interpreted programming language application is then executed from the run directory using the at least one resource.

Method And Apparatus For Determining Maximum Round Trip Times For A Network Socket

View page
US Patent:
20080056146, Mar 6, 2008
Filed:
Aug 29, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/468161
Inventors:
Steven L. Elliott - Austin TX, US
Nikhil Gupta - Cedar Park TX, US
Christopher Victor Lazzaro - Austin TX, US
International Classification:
H04J 1/16
US Classification:
370252
Abstract:
A computer implemented method, apparatus, and computer usable program code for identifying a maximum round trip time over a socket for use in transmitting data over a connection. During a beginning phase of a send operation through a socket, packets are sent on the connection as fast as possible. The as fast as possible value is determined by the network and an event is generated that flows back to the application. Sending of the packets is halted in response to this event. Round trip times for the packets sent are identified by waiting for the acknowledgement for the packets sent. The maximum round trip time from the various round trip times is identified, wherein the maximum round trip time used in an adaptive bandwidth control algorithm to determine the optimum rate of sending the data to the endpoint.

US Patent:
20080056147, Mar 6, 2008
Filed:
Aug 29, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/468183
Inventors:
Steven L. Elliott - Austin TX, US
Nikhil Gupta - Cedar Park TX, US
Christopher Victor Lazzaro - Austin TX, US
International Classification:
H04J 1/16
US Classification:
370252
Abstract:
A computer implemented method, apparatus and computer usable program code for identifying a minimum round trip time over a socket for use in transmitting data over a connection. Two packets are sent over the connection to an endpoint. Round trip times are identified for the two packets in response to receiving acknowledgments for the two packets. Two additional packets of the connection are sent after round trip times for the two packets have been identified. Additional round trip times for the two additional packets are identified in response to receiving additional acknowledgments for the two additional packets. The repeating and identifying steps are repeated for a selected period of time, wherein a lowest round trip time identified for packets sent over the connection during the selected period of time is used as the minimum round trip time for use in sending data over the connection.

Distributing Files Over A Computer Network

View page
US Patent:
20080270524, Oct 30, 2008
Filed:
Apr 30, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/742188
Inventors:
Nikhil Gupta - Cedar Park TX, US
Lawrence H. Maddox - Austin TX, US
Liliana Orozco - Del Valle TX, US
International Classification:
G06F 15/16
US Classification:
709203
Abstract:
A computer implemented method, apparatus, and computer program product for distributing files. A configurable threshold is set. A notification of a file to upload is received. An entry for the file is created in a database. A determination as to whether the size of the file is less than the configurable threshold is made. Responsive to a determination that the size of the file is greater than or equal to the configurable threshold, the file is copied to a plurality of servers, and the entry in the database is updated by adding the locations of the plurality of servers. Responsive to a determination that the file is less than the configurable threshold, the file is stored in a storage, and the entry in the database is updated with the location of the file.

Branch Predictor Accuracy By Forwarding Table Updates To Pending Branch Predictions

View page
US Patent:
20120124348, May 17, 2012
Filed:
Nov 16, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/947206
Inventors:
JAMES David DUNDAS - Austin TX, US
Nikhil Gupta - Sunnyvale CA, US
Marvin Denman - Round Rock TX, US
International Classification:
G06F 9/38
US Classification:
712240, 712E09045
Abstract:
A method and apparatus are provided for increasing the accuracy of a branch predictor. A branch prediction table provides a first instance of a branch prediction value associated with an instruction being speculatively executed a first time; and provides a second instance of the branch prediction value associated with the instruction being speculatively executed a second rime. The first instance of the branch prediction value may be subsequently revised after the instruction associated with the first instance of the branch prediction value is retired. Information regarding whether that branch instruction was accurately predicted may then be used to update the branch prediction table and the second instance of the branch prediction value.
