Methods For Carbon-Centered Radical Mediated Heavy Hydrogen Labeling Of Compounds

View page
US Patent:
6660836, Dec 9, 2003
Filed:
May 25, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/579112
Inventors:
Vernon E. Anderson - Shaker Heights OH
Michael B. Goshe - Canton OH
Assignee:
Case Western Reserve University - Cleveland OH
International Classification:
C07K 113
US Classification:
530345, 530333, 436 86, 436 89
Abstract:
The solvent accessible reduced carbon atoms in a molecule of interest are labeled with heavy hydrogen. The carbon atoms are labeled under anaerobic, aqueous conditions by exposing the molecule of interest to a hydrogen atom abstractor in the presence of a heavy hydrogen source and a heavy hydrogen donor. If the hydrogen atom abstractor is hydroxyl radical, an electron scavenger source is provided. Optionally, an internal reference is provided to facilitate experimental reproducibility.

Phosphoprotein Binding Agents And Methods Of Their Use

US Patent:
6818454, Nov 16, 2004
Filed:
Feb 16, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/788286
Inventors:
Michael B. Goshe - Richland WA
Thomas P. Conrads - Richland WA
Timothy D. Veenstra - West Richland WA
Ellen A. Panisko - West Richland WA
Assignee:
Battelle Memorial Institute - Richland WA
International Classification:
C07K 122
US Classification:
436173, 436 56, 436 57, 436 86, 530408, 530409, 530412, 530413, 530410, 530811, 530804
Abstract:
The invention provides reagents and methods for characterizing (i. e. , identification and/or quantitation) the phosphorylation states of proteins. Proteins may be post-transcriptionally modified such that they contain phosphate groups at either some or all of their serine, threonine, tyrosine, histidine, and/or lysine amino acid residues. In many cases the extent to which a protein is phosphorylated determines it bioactivity, i. e. , its ability to effect cell functions such as differentiation, division, and metabolism. Hence, a powerful tool for diagnosing various diseases and for furthering the understanding of proteinâprotein interactions is provided.
