Open-Top Cargo Box With A Tarp Bow Retaining Aperture

View page
US Patent:
7520558, Apr 21, 2009
Filed:
Aug 8, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/890829
Inventors:
Michael A. Conny - Beloit OH, US
James A. Maiorana - Hartville OH, US
James S. Arnold - Uniontown OH, US
Assignee:
Mac Trailer Manufacturing, Inc. - Alliance OH
International Classification:
B62D 33/00
US Classification:
2961851, 296104, 29610018
Abstract:
An open-top cargo box for a truck trailer that is selectively coverable with bow-supported tarpaulin system. The cargo box has an interior cavity defined by front and rear walls connected together by a pair of longitudinally extending side walls. Each side wall has an upper horizontal surface defining a plurality of spaced-apart apertures therein. Each aperture has a first cross-sectional shape and a first size. The bows that support the tarpaulin include vertically oriented ends, each of which has a second cross-sectional shape and a second size. The second shape and size of the ends of the bows is smaller than the first shape and size of the apertures. Consequently, if the side walls of the cargo box spread apart under pressure exerted by a load carried in the cavity, the ends of the bows slidably move within the apertures in the side walls in a direction substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axes of the side walls. The side walls may be reinforced proximate the apertures. Alternatively, each aperture is formed as a bore of an insert that is tightly received in any one of a plurality of holes in the upper surface of the side walls.

Tank Trailer Having An Air Actuated Handrail Assembly

View page
US Patent:
8632099, Jan 21, 2014
Filed:
Nov 14, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/295694
Inventors:
Michael A. Conny - Beloit OH, US
Scott A. Kibler - Kensington OH, US
Assignee:
Mac Trailer Manufacturing, Inc. - Alliance OH
International Classification:
B60P 3/22
US Classification:
280837, 280830, 182113
Abstract:
A handrail assembly for a tank trailer and a yoke assembly for the same. Handrail assembly provides a safety device for an operator walking along a top wall of the tank trailer. The handrail assembly includes a top rail, a plurality of vertical members, a safety wire and, sometimes, a bottom rail. Each yoke assembly secures one of the top and bottom ends of the vertical members to either of the top and bottom rails or to a mounting bracket on the tank. Each yoke assembly includes a base member engaged partially in a bore of the vertical member, and a cradle member engaged with an exterior wall of the top or bottom rails or mounting bracket. Base and cradle members are secured together by a pivot pin. Fluid-actuated cylinders extending between the vertical members and the tank move the handrail assembly between collapsed and expanded positions.

Trailer Construction And Joint For Use Therewith

US Patent:
20060059791, Mar 23, 2006
Filed:
Aug 10, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/915208
Inventors:
Michael Conny - Beloit OH, US
James Maiorana - Hartville OH, US
James Arnold - Uniontown OH, US
International Classification:
E04B 7/16
US Classification:
052071000
Abstract:
A wall for a truck bed and particularly for dump trucks includes planks joined to one another along their lengths and a cap member joined to the upper plank along their lengths. Adjacent planks are joined along respective connecting sides by engagement of a pivot of a first plank within a pivot-receiving slot of a second plank, rotation of the planks with respect to one another about the pivot and attachment by snap-fit engagement. The first plank connecting side includes an arcuate wing and the second plank connecting side includes an arcuate extension, the wing and extension being received respectively in a wing-receiving slot formed in the second plank and an extension-receiving slot formed in the first plank during the relative rotation of the planks. The cap member is joined to the upper plank in a similar manner except that attachment is by welding rather than snap-fit engagement.

Method And Apparatus For Manufacturing A Trailer Wall And Wall Formed Thereby

View page
US Patent:
20060170249, Aug 3, 2006
Filed:
Apr 14, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/105773
Inventors:
Michael Conny - Beloit OH, US
James Maiorana - Hartville OH, US
James Arnold - Uniontown OH, US
International Classification:
B62D 25/02
US Classification:
296186100
Abstract:
A method for manufacturing a trailer wall includes welding wall members together on a work surface while pressing the wall members with a rotatable roller toward the work surface and cooling the wall members adjacent points of welding there between to reduce bowing of the wall members related to heat created in the wall members by the welding. A related apparatus includes a movable welding unit having a welding tip for welding a pair of wall members together at a plurality of locations while on a work surface. A rotatable roller is pivotally mounted on the welding unit for applying pressure to the wall members toward the work surface adjacent the welding tip while rolling along the wall members. A cooling unit moves liquid or gas coolant to provide the cooling effect. Preferably, the wall members are hollow shiplap panels and the coolant passes through the hollow panels.

US Patent:
20180281753, Oct 4, 2018
Filed:
Mar 27, 2018
Appl. No.:
15/937027
Inventors:
- Alliance OH, US
Michael A. Conny - Beloit OH, US
International Classification:
B60S 3/06
B60S 3/00

Abstract:
An apparatus and method for cleaning a large object such as a tractor-trailer. The apparatus is a cleaning vehicle including a frame with a plurality of wheels mounted thereon that allow the frame to move from one location to another across the ground. An arm mounted on the frame includes arm portions that may be telescoped to longitudinally, transversely, or vertically adjust the length of the arm portions. At least one rotatable brush is operatively engaged with the arm. The vehicle is positioned adjacent the large object and the arm is adjusted to position the at least one brush adjacent a surface to be cleaned. The arm portions are actuated to change length and thereby move the brush across the object's surface to clean the same. If two brushes are provided on the arm they may be moved toward or away from each other to clean two surfaces simultaneously.
