Filed:
Jul 11, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/179044
Inventors:
Laurent Verard - Superior CO, US
Joel Hughes - Erie CO, US
Steven Hartmann - Superior CO, US
John Kappus - Denver CO, US
Joseph Moctezuma - Golden CO, US
Matthew DiCorleto - Denver CO, US
Bradley Jascob - Broomfield CO, US
John Clayton - Louisville CO, US
International Classification:
A61B 5/05
US Classification:
600423000
Abstract:
A surgical navigation system for navigating a region of a patient that may include a non-invasive dynamic reference frame and/or fiducial marker, sensor tipped instruments, and isolator circuits. The dynamic reference frame may be placed on the patient in a precise location for guiding the instruments. The dynamic reference frames may be fixedly placed on the patient. Also the dynamic reference frames may be placed to allow generally natural movements of soft tissue relative to the dynamic reference frames. Also methods are provided to determine positions of the dynamic reference frames. Anatomical landmarks may be determined intra-operatively and without access to the anatomical structure.

System And Method For Automatic Registration Between An Image And A Subject

View page
US Patent:
20120201421, Aug 9, 2012
Filed:
Apr 18, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/449475
Inventors:
Steven L. Hartmann - Superior CO, US
Bradley A. Jascob - Broomfield CO, US
Brandon Merkl - Erie CO, US
Matthew F. Dicorleto - Boulder CO, US
Assignee:
Medtronic Navigation, Inc. - Louisville CO
International Classification:
G06K 9/46
US Classification:
382103
Abstract:
A patient defines a patient space in which an instrument can be tracked and navigated. An image space is defined by image data that can be registered to the patient space. A tracking device can be connected to a member in a known manner that includes imageable portions that generate image points in the image data. Selected image slices or portions can be used to register reconstructed image data to the patient space.

Navigated Instrument With A Stabilizer

View page
US Patent:
20130261609, Oct 3, 2013
Filed:
Mar 28, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/432057
Inventors:
Matthew F. Dicorleto - Boulder CO, US
Marco Capote - Boulder CO, US
Assignee:
Medtronic Navigation, Inc. - Louisville CO
International Classification:
A61B 17/00
US Classification:
606 1
Abstract:
A stabilizer for use with a trackable surgical instrument can include a first member, a second member and a retaining member. The first member can have a first annular body portion and a first pair of legs extending therefrom. The first annular body portion can include a plurality of locating slots for engaging a selectively positionable portion of a surgical instrument. The second member can have a second annular body portion and a second pair of legs extending therefrom. The second annular body can engage a drive device of the surgical instrument. The first pair of legs can be telescopically coupled with and adjustable relative to the second pair of legs such that the first member can be axially adjustable relative to the second member. The retaining member can cooperate with at least one leg to retain the first member adjustably coupled to the second member.

Systems And Methods For Registration Between Patient Space And Image Space Using Registration Frame Apertures

View page
US Patent:
20220254040, Aug 11, 2022
Filed:
Feb 4, 2022
Appl. No.:
17/650053
Inventors:
- Louisville CO, US
Ganesh Saiprasad - Broomfield CO, US
Steven Hartmann - Superior CO, US
Matthew F. Dicorleto - Boulder CO, US
Brandon Merkl - Arvada CO, US
International Classification:
G06T 7/33
G06T 7/73
G06T 7/68
G06T 7/246
G06T 7/00
G06T 3/00
G06T 7/174
A61B 6/03
A61B 34/20
Abstract:
Systems and methods for performing registration between a patient space and an image space are disclosed herein. Systems using such methods may identify a pose of a registration frame having one or more apertures within the patient space using a tracking system. Image data corresponding to the image space having an image of the registration frame is taken. A plurality of aperture locations within the image data (corresponding to the apertures of the registration frame) are identified in the image data. Aperture representations from a model of the registration frame are matched to these aperture locations to determine a pose of the registration frame within the image space. A transform between the patient space and the image space is generated based on the pose of the registration frame within the patient space and the pose of the registration frame within the image space. Optimization methods for this transform are discussed.
