Abstract:
Compositions containing a transporter component and a signaling component and a method for using said compositions for analyzing porous media and flowing liquid streams, specifically for measuring pressure, temperature, relative abundance of water, pH, redox potential and electrolyte concentration. Analytes may include petroleum or other hydrophobic media, sulfur-containing compounds. The transporter component includes an amphiphilic nanomatenal and a plurality of solubilizing groups covalently bonded to the transporter component. The signaling component includes a plurality of reporter molecules associated with the transporter component. Said reporter molecules may be releasable from the transporter component upon exposure to at least one analyte. The reporter molecules may be non-covalently associated with the transporter component, or the reporter molecules are covalently bonded to the transporter component. Furthermore, said compositions and methods may be used to actively enhance oil recovery and for remediation of pollutants.

Abstract:
An apparatus and process for simulation of field fluid flow conditions under elevated temperature and pressure conditions of oil and gas production, refining, cooling towers, desalinization. The process involves evaluating inhibitor action in reduction of a specified chemical reaction under simulated field aqueous flow conditions by forming first and second aqueous flow streams having a preset concentration of anions and cations, respectively, for the specified chemical reaction with at least one of these streams having a concentration of the inhibitor to inhibit the specified chemical reaction. These streams are combined to form a single process stream where the specified chemical reaction may take place. The process is repeated with successive reductions in inhibitor until detecting the specified chemical reaction in the process stream. The system of this invention is useful for study of problems of scaling, corrosion and other fluid-solid reactions and evaluation of inhibitors therefore, particularly with respect to BASO. sub.

Abstract:
A process for measurement of low levels of phosphonates in brine waters wherein the phosphonate samples are acidified with hydrochloric acid promptly upon removal from an oil or gas well to prevent phosphonate precipitation or adsorption. The hydrochloric acid acidified phosphonate is digested in the presence of an oxidizing agent at elevated temperature and pressure for sufficient time to oxidize substantially all of the phosphonate to orthophosphate. The phosphorous containing compound is extracted with an organic extractant, preferably selected from the group consisting of methyl iso-butyl ketone/cyclohexane mixture and ethyl acetate, followed by color development for absorption spectrophotometry.

Abstract:
A method for inhibiting scale formation in an oil or gas well is provided. Specifically, the method is a novel "squeeze" application. The squeeze comprises injecting three solutions into the oil or gas well: (1) the preflush solution, (2) the pill solution, and (3) the overflush solution. After the injection of the three solutions, the well is shut-in for about 24 to about 48 hours. The squeeze application is useful regardless of whether the mechanism for inhibitor fixation is adsorption or precipitation.

Abstract:
Various embodiments of the present disclosure pertain to nanocomposites for detecting hydrocarbons in a geological structure. In some embodiments, the nanocomposites include: a core particle; a polymer associated with the core particle; a sulfur-based moiety associated with the polymer; and a releasable probe molecule associated with the core particle, where the releasable probe molecule is releasable from the core particle upon exposure to hydrocarbons. Additional embodiments of the present disclosure pertain to methods of detecting hydrocarbons in a geological structure by utilizing the nanocomposites of the present disclosure.
