US Patent:
8349265, Jan 8, 2013
Filed:
Jul 20, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/187089
Inventors:
Mark Beauharnois - Buffalo NY, US
Assignee:
Unifrax I LLC - Niagara Falls NY
International Classification:
B01D 50/00
US Classification:
422179
Abstract:
A mounting mat for an exhaust gas treatment device includes first and second major opposite facing surfaces, leading and trailing edges, and opposite lateral edges. At least a portion of one or both of the opposite lateral edges includes an edge protectant that protects the mounting mat against erosion from hot gases encountered during the normal operation of the exhaust gas treatment device. The edge protectant remains flexible after it has been applied to the mounting mat and substantially dried. Also disclosed is an exhaust gas treatment device that includes a housing and a fragile structure mounted within the housing by the mounting mat having the edge protectant deposited thereon. Additionally disclosed are methods of making the mounting mat and an exhaust gas treatment device.

US Patent:
20190207188, Jul 4, 2019
Filed:
Dec 28, 2018
Appl. No.:
16/235580
Inventors:
- Tonawanda NY, US
Gary LEE - Lockport NY, US
Mark BEAUHARNOIS - Buffalo NY, US
International Classification:
H01M 2/16
H01M 4/40
H01M 2/02
H01M 10/0525
Abstract:
An inorganic platelet composition for use as electrical insulation, thermal insulation and fire protection for electrochemical cells such as lithium ion cells. The inorganic platelet composition may be applied directly to the exterior surfaces of the housings of one or more individual battery cells within a battery module and/or larger battery pack, and/or to the surfaces of the battery module or battery pack housing, and/or to structure surrounding the batteries, battery modules or battery packs that would benefit from electrical insulation and fire protection. The inorganic platelet composition can minimize or prevent thermal runaway events that may originate from one battery cell or within modules of battery cells from propagating to adjacent or nearby cells, modules, packs or other structures.
