US Classification:
705 736
Abstract:
A method for cost entity matching can include constructing a first graph including a number of first entities and a number of second entities, and assigning a number of first cost values to each of a number of first edges connecting one of the number of first entities to one of the number of second entities in the first graph; adding a second graph to the first graph, wherein the second graph includes the number of first entities and the number of second entities, and assigning a second cost value to each of a number of second edges connecting one of the number of first entities in the first graph to the corresponding first entity in the second graph; and, matching each one of the number of second entities to one of the number of first entities based on the number of first cost values and the second cost values.

Predicting Number Of Selections Of Advertisement Using Hierarchical Bayesian Model

View page
US Patent:
20110270671, Nov 3, 2011
Filed:
May 3, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/772576
Inventors:
Krishna Venkatraman - Palo Alto CA, US
Lyle H. Ramshaw - Palo Alto CA, US
International Classification:
G06Q 30/00
G06F 9/44
US Classification:
705 1441, 706 52
Abstract:
A predetermined distribution type of a number of selections of an advertisement within a predetermined time period for a predetermined phrase and having a predetermined advertisement location is specified. A parameterization of a mean of the predetermined distribution type is also specified. The mean is determined using a hierarchical Bayesian model, based on the predetermined distribution type, the parameterization, and historical data regarding a number of actual selections of the advertisement for each of a number of phrases similar to the predetermined phrase. The mean corresponds to an average number of selections of the advertisement within the predetermined time period for the predetermined phrase and having the predetermined advertisement location, as predicted by the model.

Determining Multiprogramming Levels

View page
US Patent:
20110283283, Nov 17, 2011
Filed:
May 11, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/777401
Inventors:
Harumi KUNO - Cupertino CA, US
Janet L. Wiener - Palo Alto CA, US
Lyle H. Ramshaw - Palo Alto CA, US
Umeshwar Dayal - Saratoga CA, US
William K. Wilkinson - Sunnyvale CA, US
Stefan Krompass - Eching, DE
International Classification:
G06F 9/46
US Classification:
718101
Abstract:
A method of managing the execution of a workload of transactions of different transaction types on a computer system. Each transaction type may have a different resource requirement. The method may include intermittently, during execution of the workload, determining the performance of each transaction type. A determination may be made of whether if there is an overloaded transaction type in which performance is degraded with an increase in the number of transactions of the transaction type. If there is an overloaded transaction type, the number of transactions of at least one transaction type may be changed.

Determining Multi-Programming Level Using Diminishing-Interval Search

View page
US Patent:
20110283294, Nov 17, 2011
Filed:
May 11, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/777425
Inventors:
Janet L. WIENER - Palo Alto CA, US
Lyle H. Ramshaw - Palo Alto CA, US
Harumi Kuno - Cupertino CA, US
William K. Wilkinson - Sunnyvale CA, US
Stefan Krompass - Eching, DE
International Classification:
G06F 9/46
US Classification:
718107
Abstract:
A method of determining a multiprogramming level (MPL) for a first computer subsystem may be implemented on a second computer subsystem. The method may include selecting an initial MPL interval having endpoints that bound a local extremum of a computer-system operation variable that is a unimodal function of the MPL. For each interval having a length more than a threshold, operation-variable values for two intermediate MPLs in the interval may be determined. The interval may be diminished by the section of the interval between the one of the intermediate MPLs having an operation-variable value further from the extremum, and the interval endpoint adjacent to the one intermediate MPL. The operating MPL may be set equal to the other intermediate MPL when the interval has a length that is not more than the threshold.

Determining Multi-Programming Levels

US Patent:
20120110597, May 3, 2012
Filed:
Oct 29, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/916014
Inventors:
Lyle Harold Ramshaw - Palo Alto CA, US
Harumi Kuno - Cupertino CA, US
Janet L. Wiener - Palo Alto CA, US
William K. Wilkinson - San Mateo CA, US
Umeshwar Dayal - Saratoga CA, US
Stefan Krompass - Garching, DE
International Classification:
G06F 9/54
US Classification:
719316
Abstract:
An embodiment includes determining user loads and control parameter values. The determining control parameter values are mapped to a performance metric using a function. A constant performance metric is determined where the value of the function calculated at each control parameter value is less than said constant performance metric. An isocontour is defined based on the constant performance metric for each user load. Finally an operating envelope is calculated by correlating the isocontours of multiple user loads.

Generating A Configuration Of A System That Satisfies Constraints Contained In Models

View page
US Patent:
7644377, Jan 5, 2010
Filed:
Jan 31, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/700374
Inventors:
James B. Saxe - Palo Alto CA, US
Akhil Sahai - Santa Clara CA, US
Sharad Singhal - Belmont CA, US
Lyle H. Ramshaw - Palo Alto CA, US
Assignee:
Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P. - Houston TX
International Classification:
G06F 17/50
US Classification:
716 1, 716 3, 716 4
Abstract:
To configure a system, models of corresponding components are provided, where the models contain constraints. The models specify that at least one of the components is composed of at least another one of the components. The models are input into a design tool. The design tool generates a configuration of the system that includes the components, wherein the generated configuration satisfies the constraints contained in the models.

Selecting And Allocating

US Patent:
20160247100, Aug 25, 2016
Filed:
Nov 15, 2013
Appl. No.:
15/033018
Inventors:
- Houston TX, US
Cipriano A. Santos - Palo Alto CA, US
Lyle Harold Ramshaw - Palo Alto CA, US
Fereydoon Safai - Palo Alto CA, US
International Classification:
G06Q 10/06
Abstract:
An example method for allocating resources among tasks is provided. The method includes defining each task from a group of tasks in relation to an outcome of the each task. The outcome of each task is associated with a plurality of dimensions with respect to which the outcome is evaluated. The method also includes determining a subgroup of tasks from the group of tasks based on the dimensions associated with the outcomes of the tasks and determining a utility level for each of the tasks in the subgroup by using a utility function. The method further includes identifying a solution for allocating the resources among the subgroup of tasks based on a comparison of the utility level of the tasks.
