Flex-Fuel Injector For Gas Turbines

View page
US Patent:
20100077760, Apr 1, 2010
Filed:
Jan 20, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/356131
Inventors:
Walter R. Laster - Oviedo FL, US
Weidong Cai - Oviedo FL, US
Timothy A. Fox - Hamilton, CA
Kyle L. Landry - Winter Park FL, US
Assignee:
SIEMENS ENERGY, INC. - Orlando FL
International Classification:
F02C 1/00
US Classification:
60742, 60740
Abstract:
A fuel injector () for alternate fuels (A, B) with energy densities that differ by at least about a factor of two. Vanes (B) extend radially from a fuel delivery tube structure (B) with first and second fuel supply channels (A, B). Each vane has first and second radial passages (A, B) communicating with the respective fuel supply channels, and first and second sets of apertures (A, B) between the respective radial passages and the surface () of the vane. The first fuel supply channel, first radial passage, and first apertures form a first fuel delivery pathway providing a first fuel flow rate at a given backpressure. The second fuel supply channel, second radial passage, and second apertures form a second fuel delivery pathway providing a second fuel flow rate that may be at least about twice first fuel flow rate at the given backpressure.

Convex Pilot Cone

US Patent:
20100307160, Dec 9, 2010
Filed:
Jun 3, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/429318
Inventors:
Vinayak Barve - Orlando FL, US
Michael Huth - Essen, DE
Kyle L. Landry - Winter Park FL, US
Bernhard Wegner - Mulheim, DE
International Classification:
F02C 7/22
US Classification:
60748
Abstract:
A gas turbine combustor is provided. The gas turbine combustor has a pilot nozzle having a pilot fuel injection port at a downstream end, in terms of the direction flow of a fuel, and lies on the axial centreline of the gas turbine combustor. It also has a main combustion zone, downstream of the pilot nozzle, and a pilot cone projecting from the vicinity of the pilot fuel injection port and having a diverged end adjacent to the main combustion zone, wherein a half angle of the pilot cone is increasing in the downstream direction.

Flashback Resistant Fuel Injection System

US Patent:
20100319350, Dec 23, 2010
Filed:
Jun 23, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/489775
Inventors:
Kyle L. Landry - Winter Park FL, US
Reinhard Schilp - Orlando FL, US
International Classification:
F02C 7/22
US Classification:
60748
Abstract:
A fuel injector assembly includes a fuel injector that provides fuel to be mixed with air for ignition in a combustor. The fuel injector assembly includes a fuel shroud and a plurality of spanning members. The spanning members are spaced circumferentially on the fuel shroud between the fuel shroud and a base plate assembly, which supports the fuel injector assembly within the combustor. The spanning members space the fuel shroud from the base plate assembly such that an annular gap is formed therebetween. The gap permits a flow of purge air therethrough to be mixed with compressed air entering the fuel shroud and with fuel provided by the fuel injector. The spanning members comprise elongate members having upstream ends that are circumferentially offset from opposed downstream ends so that the spanning members provide tangential velocity to the purge air flowing through the annular gap.
