The real estate business came naturally to Karen, whose mother, one of the first female brokers in the state of Indiana, founded Hansbarger Realty in Steuben County in 1966. "I held the end of the tape measure for my mom as she gathered the property information. I was taught to take phone messages when I could barely write!" Karen joked. Growing up with three older brothers on Clear Lake, learning to ski and was highly involved with the Clear Lake Ski Club and having friends on the other lakes, Karen's knowledge of the many lakes are invaluable. Karen's mom Joan, developed the 20 Unit Condo Regime on Clear Lake. This was a big deal in the 70's and drew quite a bit of Legal & Press attention. "Mom had to go to the State for Approval since it was among the 1st Condo projects in the state." Karen said. But before joining her oldest brother and broker, Mark Hansbarger, (who also developed and built condo's on the Lake James Chain) she spent over eight years in banking, giving her the background to help buyers understand financing. She is an avid learner of new marketing ideas and innovations. She and her husband work side-by-side full time in real estate. They have been told by their piers that they are not just ordinary Realtors, but rather they are "consumer advocates". Their main focus has been and will always be educating the consumer. Educated consumers make better decisions, wouldn't you agree? They are enthusiastic and passionate about their business, and not only have you met a great team of professionals but you have also made valuable friends in the community.
