Variable Reliability Wireless Communication Transmission Method And Apparatus

View page
US Patent:
20060120298, Jun 8, 2006
Filed:
Dec 8, 2004
Appl. No.:
11/007465
Inventors:
John Harris - Chicago IL, US
Vijay Subramanian - Chicago IL, US
Fan Wang - Vernon Hills IL, US
Jyoti Black - St. Charles IL, US
International Classification:
H04L 12/26
H04Q 7/24
US Classification:
370252000, 370338000
Abstract:
A mobile station () senses () at least one boundary of a wireless communication packet () which includes a plurality of frames. The mobile station () then determines () at least a first group () and a second group () of frames at least in part in relation to the sensed boundary. The first group () of frames is received () at a first target reliability, and the second group () of frames is received () at a second target reliability. Optionally, the frames are sent () or received at a variable reliability in relation to the frames' distances from one or more boundaries () of the packet ().

Method And Apparatus For Dynamic Backhaul Resource Management In A Wireless Communication System

View page
US Patent:
20050201289, Sep 15, 2005
Filed:
Mar 11, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/798926
Inventors:
Jeffrey Smolinske - Schaumburg IL, US
Jyoti Black - St. Charles IL, US
International Classification:
H04J003/00
US Classification:
370236100, 370336000
Abstract:
Various embodiments are described to address the need to lower backhaul costs for EGPRS operators while maintaining the low and constant delay characteristics they require. 20 msec TRAU frames (-) are still used for backhaul to maintain the low and constant delay. However, to eliminate the restriction of mapping TRAU timeslots to air timeslots (-) one-to-one, the TRAU slots are collectively treated as a one large 20 msec TRAU frame for a group of air timeslots. The data for the air timeslots can be packed efficiently into this giant TRAU frame, ignoring backhaul timeslot boundaries. In this way, the appropriate amount of backhaul for the carrier can be allocated and the data for the air interface timeslots more efficiently packed into the backhaul.
