Highly Constrained Reconstruction Of Motion Encoded Mr Images

View page
US Patent:
7711166, May 4, 2010
Filed:
Sep 28, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/518036
Inventors:
Charles A. Mistretta - Madison WI, US
Julia Velikina - Madison WI, US
Kevin Michael Johnson - Hartland WI, US
Oliver Wieben - Madison WI, US
Assignee:
Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation - Madison WI
International Classification:
G06K 9/00
G01V 3/00
A61B 5/05
US Classification:
382128, 324307, 600410
Abstract:
A series of velocity encoded MR image frames are acquired. To increase the temporal resolution of the acquired image frames radial projections are acquired and each image frame is highly undersampled. The radial projections for each velocity encoding direction are interleaved throughout the scan and a composite phase image is reconstructed from these and used to reconstruct a velocity image for each image frame in a highly constrained backprojection method.

Contrast Enhanced Mra With Highly Constrained Backprojection Reconstruction Using Phase Contrast Composite Image

View page
US Patent:
7991452, Aug 2, 2011
Filed:
Dec 28, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/966237
Inventors:
Charles A. Mistretta - Madison WI, US
Julia Velikina - Madison WI, US
Kevin Michael Johnson - Madison WI, US
Thomas M. Grist - Madison WI, US
Assignee:
Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation - Madison WI
International Classification:
A61B 5/055
US Classification:
600420, 600410, 600431, 382128, 382130
Abstract:
Mask projection views are obtained prior to the arrival of a contrast agent during a dynamic contrast enhanced MRA study. After the arrival of the contrast agent, a set of undersampled contrast enhanced projection views are obtained for each of a plurality of time frames. Corresponding mask projection views are subtracted from the contrast enhanced projection views to provide sparse contrast enhanced projection view sets. A phase contrast scan of a region of interest is performed prior to or after the arrival of the contrast agent. The phase contrast image is used as a composite image in a HYPR reconstruction of the sparse projection view sets to produce first pass contrast enhanced images. Iterative HYPR reconstructions can also be performed to remove venous information from the reconstructed images.

Localized And Highly Constrained Image Reconstruction Method

View page
US Patent:
8170315, May 1, 2012
Filed:
Feb 15, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/032240
Inventors:
Charles A. Mistretta - Madison WI, US
Julia Velikina - Madison WI, US
Kevin Michael Johnson - Madison WI, US
Assignee:
Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation - Madison WI
International Classification:
G06K 9/00
US Classification:
382131
Abstract:
An image reconstruction method includes reconstructing a composite image of a subject using a conventional reconstruction method. The composite image employs the best information available regarding the subject of the scan and this information is used to constrain the reconstruction of a highly undersampled image frames or improve the SNR of image frames. A blurred and normalized weighting image is produced from image frame data, and this normalized weighting image is multiplied by the composite image.

Method For Reconstructing Motion-Compensated Magnetic Resonance Images From Non-Cartesian K-Space Data

View page
US Patent:
8306299, Nov 6, 2012
Filed:
Mar 25, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/072353
Inventors:
Alexey A Samsonov - Madison WI, US
Julia Velikina - Madison WI, US
Assignee:
Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation - Madison WI
International Classification:
G06K 9/00
A61B 5/05
US Classification:
382128, 600410
Abstract:
A method for reconstructing a motion-compensated image depicting a subject with a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system is provided. An MRI system is used to acquire a time series of k-space data from the subject by sampling k-space along non-Cartesian trajectories, such as radial, spiral, or other trajectories at a plurality of time frames. Those time frames at which motion occurred are identified and this information used to segment the time series into a plurality of k-space data subsets. For example, the k-space data subsets contain k-space data acquired at temporally adjacent time frames that occur between those identified time frames at which motion occurred. Motion correction parameters are determined from the k-space data subsets. Using the determined motion correction parameters, the k-space data subsets are corrected for motion. The corrected data subsets are combined to form a corrected k-space data set, from which a motion-compensated image is reconstructed.

Reconstruction Method For Images Of The Beating Heart

US Patent:
20070167707, Jul 19, 2007
Filed:
Sep 7, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/516957
Inventors:
Charles Mistretta - Madison WI, US
Julia Velikina - Madison WI, US
Oliver Wieben - Madison WI, US
International Classification:
A61B 5/05
US Classification:
600407000
Abstract:
Projection views of the moving heart and stationary background tissues are acquired and processed to provide corresponding moving tissue projection views. An average image is reconstructed in a conventional manner and a moving tissue image is reconstructed using a highly constrained backprojection method and a composite image formed from selected moving tissue projection views. The average image is then combined with the moving tissue image. The method is disclosed in a cardiac gated MRI scan.

System And Method For Model Consistency Constrained Medical Image Reconstruction

View page
US Patent:
20130343625, Dec 26, 2013
Filed:
Jun 23, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/531523
Inventors:
Alexey Samsonov - Madison WI, US
Julia Velikina - Madison WI, US
International Classification:
G06T 11/00
US Classification:
382131
Abstract:
A method for reconstructing an image of a subject with a medical imaging system, such as a magnetic resonance imaging system, is provided. Medical image data is acquired from the subject with the medical imaging system, and one or more images of the subject are reconstructed from the medical image data while constraining the one or more images to be consistent with a signal model that relates image intensity values in the image to a free parameter that is associated with a physical property of the subject. The signal model may be an analytical signal model or an approximate signal model learned from acquired medical image data. The model consistency condition may be enforced using an operator that projects an image estimate onto the space of all functions satisfying the signal model.

System And Method For Accelerated, Time-Resolved Imaging

15/683916
Inventors:
- Madison WI, US
Julia V. Velikina - Madison WI, US
International Classification:
A61B 6/00
A61B 5/055
A61B 6/03
G01R 33/561
G01R 33/565
G01R 33/56
G01R 33/563
Abstract:
A system and method for reconstructing a series of images of a subject includes acquiring medical image data from the subject with a medical imaging system and reconstructing a series of images of the subject from the acquired medical image data set. The reconstructing includes enforcing general adherence to a non-patient-specific signal model that describes a dependency of image intensity values on at least one variable that is associated with a physical or physiological property by constraining reconstruction of individual images in the series of images using the non-patient-specific model. The reconstructing also includes preserving information in the series of images that deviate from the non-patient-specific model by controlling a requirement of consistency with the non-patient-specific model.
