Device For Insertion Into A Body Opening

View page
US Patent:
39688003, Jul 13, 1976
Filed:
Sep 17, 1974
Appl. No.:
5/506683
Inventors:
Joseph A. Vilasi - Dix Hills NY
International Classification:
A61M 2900
A61M 1600
US Classification:
128343
Abstract:
An essentially hollow device for use in a body opening without limitation to but as an endotracheal tube, a bronchoscope, a vascular or cervical dilator and the like wherein the same has an outer surface that is operable to expand into engagement with the wall of the body opening into which the same is adapted to be inserted.

Cuffless Adjustable Endotracheal Tube

View page
US Patent:
48279250, May 9, 1989
Filed:
Jan 29, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/149786
Inventors:
Joseph A. Vilasi - Dix Hills NY
International Classification:
A61M 1600
US Classification:
12820714
Abstract:
An expandable endotracheal tube and the like comprising extended, spaced segments. Actuating members fill the spaces between adjacent segments. The actuating members and the segments have curved edges so that sliding movement of the actuating members will cause the circumference of the tube to expand. A syringe type of device at the proximal end of the tube causes the actuating members to slide and effect the expansion of the segments.

Expandable Endotracheal Tube

View page
US Patent:
47223359, Feb 2, 1988
Filed:
Oct 20, 1986
Appl. No.:
6/920752
Inventors:
Joseph A. Vilasi - Dix Hills NY
International Classification:
A61M 1600
US Classification:
12820714
Abstract:
An expandable endotracheal tube and the like comprising a pair of overlapping extended segments. A piston drive mechanism actuated by air under pressure is disposed between the segments to effect the expansion of the tube in situ. Slidable dovetail joints insure that the segments slide only circumferentially with respect to each other. In another embodiment, the two segments are fused along one overlapping edge and a pair of catheters extend circumferentially with one entering the other.

Expandable Inter Vivos Tube

View page
US Patent:
56473583, Jul 15, 1997
Filed:
Mar 20, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/618577
Inventors:
Joseph Vilasi - Melbourne Beach FL
International Classification:
A61M 1604
US Classification:
12820714
Abstract:
A flexible expandable inter vivos tube includes at least one arched segmented portion and at least one positioning mechanism, the at least one arched segmented portion and at least one positioning mechanism forming a flexible closed longitudinally extending tube, preferably an endotracheal tube for introduction of oxygen and other anesthetic gases from a source thereof into the lungs of a surgical patient or similar mammal. The positioning mechanism is preferable an H-shaped connector having at least one cul-de-sac receptacle cavity for variable slidable movement of at least one tapered tongue free end portions of the at least one arched segment therein. To move the at least one tongue portion within the at least one cul-de-sac receptacle cavity, fluid is introduced into at least one longitudinally extending lumen running mostly along the longitudinal axis of the flexible expandable inter vivos tube, so that the hydraulic pressure moves the at least one tongue portion away from an inner rib of said at least one H-shaped connector, thereby expanding the circumference and diameter of the flexible inter vivos tube. The flexible expandable inter vivos tube, such as an endotracheal tube, anchors reversibly within a body cavity, such as a trachea. Thereby, the inter vivos tube can be optimally positioned in the body cavity, such as the trachea without interfering with the tissues of the body cavity.

US Patent:
20220409838, Dec 29, 2022
Filed:
Jan 26, 2022
Appl. No.:
17/585294
Inventors:
Joseph A. Vilasi - Bradenton FL, US
Joseph D'Ambrosio - Ridgefield CT, US
International Classification:
A61M 16/04
Abstract:
An expandable inter-vivos tube that allows for the use in medical procedures while limiting known complications arising from conventional inter-vivos tubes is presented, wherein the expandable inter-vivos tube comprises a slit formed longitudinally within a tube and a plurality of nipples extending from an outer surface of the tube that are insertable within a corresponding one of a plurality of slides within an outer slidable element that is slidable within the slit. A position of the nipples within the slots causes a distance between the edges of the to increase; thus, increasing a circumference of the inter-vivos tube as the outer element is slide from a proximal end of the tube element to a distal end of the tube.

Expandable Inter Vivos Tube And Method Of Manufacturing Same

US Patent:
20150011828, Jan 8, 2015
Filed:
Jul 30, 2014
Appl. No.:
14/446457
Inventors:
Joseph A. Vilasi - Lakewood Ranch FL, US
Joseph D'Ambrosio - Ridgefield CT, US
International Classification:
A61M 16/04
A61B 1/00
A61M 16/20
A61M 16/08
US Classification:
600116, 12820715
Abstract:
A flexible expandable inter vivos tube includes at least one arched segmented portion, a corresponding movable element and at least one positioning mechanism. The at least one arched segmented portion and corresponding movable element forming a flexible closed longitudinally expandable tube. The at least one arched segment includes an H-shaped connector having at least one cavity that allows variable slidable movement of a free end portion of the corresponding movable element. A balloon is contained in each of the at least one cavity so that the hydraulic or air pressure within balloon expands the movable element and, thus, the circumference of the flexible inter vivos tube is increased.
