A machine for allowing different fluid or gas flow rates in different directions through a conduit with a freely pivotable valve element, and a valve element stop so as can provide for limited flow of a fluid or gas in one direction and full flow in the reverse direction, also allowing a feed pump to pump against its own head pressure. This permits a smaller reservoir to be used in cistern systems while not reducing pump run times below the minimum required but still allowing full flow in the opposite direction out of the tank to the end user.

The pump control system also includes a micro-controller to receive the phase signals and to generate a rectified output signal based on the phase signals, and a relay to control the power supplied to the fluid pump based on the output signal of the micro-controller.

A pump control and protection system comprised of an analog module and a digital module. The analog module includes a synchronous phase detector, a pressure transducer and an over voltage/under voltage circuit. The synchronous phase detector determines the phase angle between a current signal supplied to a water pump and a voltage signal supplied to the pump. The output of the phase detector is directed to a programmable array logic device in the digital module and used to activate a solid state relay that controls the power supplied to the pump. The water pressure in the system is displayed on a digital display.
