Contourable Spinal Staple With Centralized And Unilateral Prongs

View page
US Patent:
6533787, Mar 18, 2003
Filed:
Jul 31, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/628761
Inventors:
Lawrence G. Lenke - St. Louis MO
Joseph W. Tai - Bartlett TN
Assignee:
SDGI Holdings, Inc. - Wilmington DE
International Classification:
A61B 1756
US Classification:
606 61, 606 75
Abstract:
A staple for stabilizing the attachment of a vertebral screw and a longitudinal member to the spine. The staple has a plate with first and second apertures. All the staples legs, prongs, or spikes attached to the underside of the staple are located closer to one particular aperture than the other. Preferably, the plate is also âbow-tieâ shaped with a groove that separates the wings of the bow-tie. This bow-tie or hour glass shape combined with the groove help the surgeon to more easily conform the plate to the patients vertebra.

Filed:
Jul 1, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/885293
Inventors:
Marc H. Hedrick - Encino CA, US
John K. Fraser - Los Angeles CA, US
Susan Lynn Riley - San Diego CA, US
Joseph W. Tai - San Diego CA, US
Assignee:
Cytori Therapeutics, Inc. - San Diego CA
International Classification:
A01N 63/00
US Classification:
424 937, 435325, 435366, 606 1, 606131, 604 19, 604 22
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a device comprising a cell carrier portion containing regenerative cells, e. g. , stem and progenitor cells, and a cell carrier containment portion. The device is useful for the treatment of bone related disorders, including spinal fusion related disorders and long bone or flat bone related defects. The device may be used in conjunction with disclosed automated systems and methods for separating and concentrating regenerative cells.

Resorbable Hollow Devices For Implantation And Delivery Of Therapeutic Agents

View page
US Patent:
20060182780, Aug 17, 2006
Filed:
Feb 16, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/357837
Inventors:
Susan Riley - San Diego CA, US
Alexander Vaccaro - Gladwyne PA, US
Joseph Tai - San Diego CA, US
International Classification:
A61M 29/00
A61F 2/00
US Classification:
424426000, 604099010
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing a resorbable balloon designed to contain bone cement for vertebroplasty or kyphoplasty applications is described. The resorbable balloon can be inserted into a vertebral body following vertebral cavitation and filled with bone cement. The balloon remains in place in the vertebral body and resorbs over time. Methods and apparatus are also described for delivering therapeutic agents using collapsible, resorbable balloons. The balloons may be nested and filled with various therapeutic agents that are released over time at rates dependent upon structures and degradation rates of the balloons. Furthermore, the function of the hollow devices can encompass both encapsulation and therapeutic substance delivery roles simultaneously.

Methods For Making And Using Composites, Polymer Scaffolds, And Composite Scaffolds
