Antenna System With Base Configuration For Passive Inter-Modulation (Pim) Mitigation

View page
US Patent:
7609226, Oct 27, 2009
Filed:
Aug 20, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/841225
Inventors:
Jonathan P. MacGahan - Ivyland PA, US
R. Mark Clark - Langhorne PA, US
Assignee:
Lockheed Martin Corporation - Bethesda MD
International Classification:
H01Q 1/36
US Classification:
343895, 343846
Abstract:
An antenna system comprises an antenna element, a base plate, and a ground plane. The antenna element is configured to radiate signals, receive signals, or radiate and receive signals. The base plate has a front surface facing the antenna element and a rear surface facing away from the antenna element. The front surface of the base plate has an uncovered area, and the uncovered area of the base plate has no exposed conductive mechanical joints. The ground plane has a front surface facing the antenna element and a rear surface facing away from the antenna element. The antenna system further comprises a capacitive coupling between the base plate and the ground plane formed by an overlap region between the base plate and ground plane. The ground plane is capacitively coupled to the base plate in the overlap region.

Antenna Feed Network To Produce Both Linear And Circular Polarizations

View page
US Patent:
8525616, Sep 3, 2013
Filed:
Apr 12, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/758429
Inventors:
Robert K. Shaw - Willow Grove PA, US
Jonathan P. MacGahan - Ivyland PA, US
Sulinder S. Dhanjal - Pennington NJ, US
Erik Lier - Newtown PA, US
Bernard F. Lindinger - Elkins Park PA, US
James W. Matthews - Doylestown PA, US
Kanti N. Patel - Newtown PA, US
Assignee:
Lockheed Martin Corporation - Bethesda MA
International Classification:
H01P 5/12
US Classification:
333135, 333126, 333129
Abstract:
An antenna feed network includes a septum polarizer including a waveguide defining a cavity, wherein a septum is disposed in the cavity to divide the cavity to form a first port and as second port, a diplexer in signal communication with at least one of the first port and the second port of the septum polarizer to route a signal based upon a frequency, and a wave coupler/splitter in signal communication with the diplexer to send and receive signals therebetween, the wave coupler/splitter including a first signal path and a second signal path, wherein the wave coupler/splitter controls a phase shift of a signal transmitted through at least one of the first signal path and the second signal path.

Radial Power Combiner/Divider With Mode Suppression

View page
US Patent:
49261452, May 15, 1990
Filed:
Dec 16, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/285537
Inventors:
Richard P. Flam - Doylestown PA
Jonathan P. MacGahan - Yardley PA
Assignee:
Flam & Russell, Inc. - Horsham PA
International Classification:
H01P 512
US Classification:
333125
Abstract:
In a radial power combiner/divider in which radial slots are provided for suppression of undesired modes, certain undesired modes which are not adequately suppressed by the radial slots are allowed to be propagated in a central coaxial transmission line and suppressed therein by means of longitudinal slots in the outer conductor. In an alternative embodiment, the central transmission line of the combiner/divider is in the form of a circular waveguide, and the suppression means comprises thin, spaced coaxial cylinders of dissipative material.

E-Field Generator

View page
US Patent:
58924841, Apr 6, 1999
Filed:
Oct 30, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/741473
Inventors:
Jonathan P. MacGahan - Ivyland PA
Assignee:
Amplifier Research Corporation - Souderton PA
International Classification:
H01Q 926
US Classification:
343740
Abstract:
An E-field generator for r. f. susceptibility testing comprises first and second conductive arms, each comprising a conductor having a U-shaped portion. A driving circuit connected to first ends of each conductor delivers r. f. power to the arms. A load resistance is connected between the opposite ends of the conductors. The U-shaped portions of the elements are disposed opposite each other in spaced relationship so that a device to be tested can be positioned between them. The elements are mounted on a housing which encloses the load resistance as well as a 9:1 balun. The elements are removably secured in clamps, and the housing has provisions for mounting in alternative positions.
