Bubble Lattice File Structure

View page
US Patent:
40598284, Nov 22, 1977
Filed:
Aug 20, 1976
Appl. No.:
5/715967
Inventors:
Tsutomu Kobayashi - Placentia CA
John L. Archer - Orange CA
Michael T. Elliott - Balboa Island CA
Assignee:
Rockwell International Corporation - El Segundo CA
International Classification:
G11C 1908
US Classification:
365 32
Abstract:
In an improved bubble lattice file (BLF) structure, two adjacent layers of magnetic bubble domain material are utilized to provide separate media for supporting carrier bubbles or coded bubbles. The coded bubbles, in one layer, represent data stored in the bubble lattice file. The carrier bubbles, in another layer, are magnetically coupled to the coded bubbles and are used in manipulation thereof. The magnetic bubble domain layers may be separated by an appropriate interface layer or surface. The lattice file area, or storage area, is biased by a single layer of bias material while adjacent areas, such as an input/output region, include a pair of biasing layers disposed on opposite sides of the adjacent layer structure. This composite permits an improved bubble lattice file structure which utilizes the storage capabilities of bubble lattice file memories as well as the operating capabilities of so-called conventional magnetic bubble domain device techniques.

Parabolic Dish And Method Of Constructing Same

View page
US Patent:
40018369, Jan 4, 1977
Filed:
Feb 28, 1975
Appl. No.:
5/554038
Inventors:
John S. Archer - Palos Verdes Peninsula CA
Harry J. McCracken - Los Angeles CA
Assignee:
TRW Inc. - Redondo Beach CA
International Classification:
H01Q 1912
US Classification:
343756
Abstract:
A parabolic dish is constructed by forming from relatively thin flexible sheet material a planar assembly of relatively narrow curved strips arranged side by side and having arcuate longitudinal edges which conform to curves defined by certain parametric equations, such that the strip assembly may be deformed to a parabolic dish configuration wherein the adjacent strip edges are disposed contiguous one another in planes parallel to a plane containing the principle axis of the dish, and joining the strips of the deformed strip assembly to retain the latter in its parabolic dish configuration. A polarizing parabolic dish antenna reflector is constructed by forming on the strips of the planar strip assembly, as by a photoetching process, a plurality of arcuate electrically conductive grid elements conforming to curves established by the parametric equations and bonding the strip assembly in its deformed parabolic dish configuration to a parabolic reflector dish to provide on the parabolic surface of the dish a polarizing grid comprising the grid elements disposed side by side in equally spaced planes parallel to a plane containing the principle axis of the dish.

Method For Producing Single Crystal Films

David M. Heinz - Orange CA
Assignee:
Rockwell International Corporation - El Segundo CA
International Classification:
C23C 1108
H01F 134
US Classification:
427128
Abstract:
The reaction zone for the deposition of a metal oxide film on a crystal substrate inside a reaction chamber is shifted during a chemical vapor deposition process by the systematic control of the process parameters of the system.

Multiple Loop Shift Register Having Redundancy

View page
US Patent:
39900584, Nov 2, 1976
Filed:
Aug 22, 1974
Appl. No.:
5/499718
Inventors:
John L. Archer - Orange CA
Leonard Tocci - Laguna Niguel CA
Thomas T. Chen - Yorba Linda CA
Assignee:
Rockwell International Corporation - El Segundo CA
International Classification:
G11C 2900
G11C 1114
G11C 1900
US Classification:
340174TF
Abstract:
A magnetic memory organization for single wall magnetic domains comprising a primary domain propagation loop, secondary propagation loops which may be serially coupled to the primary loop for enlarging the capacity of the primary loop, and a conductor network for altering the magnetic properties of the loops to connect operative secondary loops in series with the primary loop and to bypass inoperative secondary loops.

Compliant Mesh Structure For Collapsible Reflector

View page
US Patent:
39822486, Sep 21, 1976
Filed:
Jul 1, 1974
Appl. No.:
5/484635
Inventors:
John S. Archer - Palos Verdes Peninsula CA
Assignee:
TRW Inc. - Redondo Beach CA
International Classification:
H01Q 1516
H01Q 1520
US Classification:
343840
Abstract:
A wire mesh structure, primarily for space applications, characterized by its lightweight, its compact stowage and deployment capability, and its ability to maintain its shape under widely varying thermal conditions. The structure has a frame supporting a wire mesh including wires which are terminally secured to the frame and constitute the primary structural elements of the mesh. These structural wires are preformed to a spring-like configuration which renders the wires resiliently compliant with a low spring rate in the endwise direction and are stretched to produce a predetermined tension preload in the wires when the mesh is installed on the supporting frame. This preload retains the mesh in a taut condition under widely varying thermal conditions and thereby prevents the formation of slack in the mesh which would allow out-of-plane displacement of the mesh. The invention also encompasses a method of fabricating the mesh and the mesh structure and is described in relation to a wire mesh parabolic dish antenna.

Hardening Of Spacecraft Structures Against Momentary High Level Radiation Exposure Using A Radiation Shield

View page
US Patent:
48475068, Jul 11, 1989
Filed:
May 26, 1987
Appl. No.:
7/053900
Inventors:
John S. Archer - Rancho Palos Verdes CA
Assignee:
TRW Inc. - Redondo Beach CA
International Classification:
B64G 154
US Classification:
2505151
Abstract:
Objects, particularly spacecraft structures, antennas, solar arrays and other spacecraft equipment, are shielded against damage from momentary exposure to high energy electromagnetic radiation in the form of high energy optical (laser) radiation or nuclear radiation by a radiation barrier or shield constructed of fibrous silica refractory composite material like that used for the heat shield tiles on the shuttle spacecraft.

Depolyable Reflector

View page
US Patent:
47807261, Oct 25, 1988
Filed:
Dec 3, 1984
Appl. No.:
6/677259
Inventors:
John S. Archer - Rancho Palos Verdes CA
William B. Palmer - Palos Verdes Estates CA
Assignee:
TRW Inc. - Redondo Beach CA
International Classification:
H01Q 1520
US Classification:
343881
Abstract:
An improved hydraulic reflector is provided for use as an antenna or solar reflector or the like, wherein the reflector is collapsible for highly compact stowage within a space vehicle and for convenient deployment in space to an expanded, generally dish-shaped configuration. The reflector comprises a rigid central dish hinged to a peripheral array of hingedly interconnected rigid panels which in turn carry a peripheral array of outwardly radiating extension ribs supporting an outer ring of flexible reflector material. The rigid panels and the extension ribs are movable together between a collapsed state folded substantially into a cylindrical envelope defined by the diametric size of the rigid central dish and a deployed configuration lying generally within a surface of revolution common to the central dish, such as a paraboloid surface in the case of an antenna.
