Methods, Systems, And Computer Program Products For Dynamic Inter-Operability Of Nodes In Service Grids

View page
US Patent:
7370118, May 6, 2008
Filed:
Feb 4, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/771911
Inventors:
Yih-Shin Tan - Raleigh NC, US
Vivekanand Vellanki - Raleigh NC, US
Jie Xing - Cary NC, US
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06F 15/173
US Classification:
709238
Abstract:
Dynamic inter-operability of nodes in services grids can be provided. In some cases, different version service nodes in a service grid can communicate using an inter-operability service to, for example, convert messages from one format associated with a version of a service node to another format associated with another version of a service node. Also, the message format may be converted from a current (e. g. , newer) version of a node to another format which is compatible with an older version of a service node. The inter-operability service can be provided as a web service that is separate from the service nodes in the grid. The inter-operability service is associated with at least one of the service nodes in the grid and is available thereto via, for example, an administrative call by the associated service node.

US Patent:
7788539, Aug 31, 2010
Filed:
Jul 12, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/456905
Inventors:
Belinda Chang - Cary NC, US
John Raithel Hind - Raleigh NC, US
Robert Edward Moore - Durham NC, US
Brad Byer Topol - Cary NC, US
Jie Xing - Cary NC, US
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06F 11/00
US Classification:
714 38, 717124
Abstract:
A method to debug a user command that failed to execute on a computing device may include forming a syntactically valid built-up command. The method may also include comparing the user command to the built-up command and analyzing the user command holistically.

Capacity-On-Demand In Distributed Computing Environments

View page
US Patent:
20040049579, Mar 11, 2004
Filed:
Apr 10, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/119820
Inventors:
Steven Ims - Apex NC, US
Yongcheng Li - Raleigh NC, US
Richard Lusardi - Ridgefield CT, US
Jie Xing - Cary NC, US
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06F015/173
G06F015/16
US Classification:
709/225000, 709/203000
Abstract:
Methods, systems, computer program products, and methods of doing business by using dynamic capacity-on-demand techniques for re-routing traffic in a distributed computing network. When demand on an enterprise's resources exceeds some predetermined level, dynamic modifications cause static content (such as images) to be served from resources which are external to the enterprise, such as a caching system which is located close to the enterprise's end users. When demand falls below the predetermined level, the modifications are effectively reversed, such that the external resources are no longer used. The predetermined level may apply to a single monitored device, or to a group of monitored devices. The dynamic capacity-on-demand techniques may also be used for dynamic types of content, such as for dynamically re-routing access to an application program executing on an external resource, and may be used for internal capacity-on-demand as well.

System, Method And Program Product For Operating A Grid Of Service Providers Based On A Service Policy

View page
US Patent:
20040098606, May 20, 2004
Filed:
Nov 18, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/298962
Inventors:
Yih-Shin Tan - Raleigh NC, US
Vivekanand Vellanki - Raleigh NC, US
Jie Xing - Cary NC, US
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06F011/30
US Classification:
713/200000
Abstract:
Under the present invention, a user-issued request for services is received and validated based on the service policy. Once validated, an initial set of service providers from a grid are identified. Once identified, the set can be dynamically varied based on monitored performances of the service providers, and/or based on the discovery of other service providers from other grids. Once the set is finalized, one or more particular service providers are selected to process the request. This system allows the grid to automatically respond to events monitored to optimize and provide reliable operations.

Non-Intrusive Recursive Dispatching Of Nested Service Collections For Aggregating Web Services

View page
US Patent:
20040193713, Sep 30, 2004
Filed:
Mar 28, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/402409
Inventors:
Yih-Shin Tan - Raleigh NC, US
Jie Xing - Cary NC, US
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06F015/173
US Classification:
709/225000
Abstract:
The present invention is a method and system for non-intrusively dispatching service requests in a service node nested in a service topology. The method can include receiving a service request in the service node and identifying a requested operation and corresponding parameters for the requested operation from the received service request. A port end point address can be obtained for the requested operation and a service list can be located for the requested operation. It can be determined whether the service node is a destination hub. If so, an operation corresponding to THE service request can be invoked. Otherwise, a service node at a different level in the service topology can be selected and the foregoing process can be recursively performed.

Methods, Systems, And Computer Program Products For Configuring Rules For Service Nodes In Grid Service Architecture Systems

View page
US Patent:
20050172013, Aug 4, 2005
Filed:
Feb 4, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/772135
Inventors:
Yih-Shin Tan - Raleigh NC, US
Vivekanand Vellanki - Raleigh NC, US
Jie Xing - Cary NC, US
International Classification:
G06F015/177
US Classification:
709220000
Abstract:
Operational rules are transmitted from a first service node that receives a request for service to a second service node that is configured to apply the operational rule to requests for service in response to the request. For example, operational rules can be propagated from a primary node to a secondary node that operates responsive to the primary node, wherein the operational rule defines how the secondary node is to process the request for service from the primary node. Furthermore, the operational rules provided by the primary node can be propagated in a hierarchical fashion throughout the grid to other nodes.
