Gaseous Fuel And Air Mixer Assembly For Internal Combustion Engine

View page
US Patent:
6810863, Nov 2, 2004
Filed:
Oct 31, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/698270
Inventors:
Bryan Memmott - North Barrington IL
Mark A. Fisher - Crystal Lake IL
Jerry D. Hielkema - Rockton IL
Assignee:
Woodward Governor Company - Fort Collins CO
International Classification:
F02B 4300
US Classification:
123527, 123590
Abstract:
A gas/air mixer assembly provides a Venturi metering system that may draw fuel from a zero governor, mix it with air to form a homogenous gas/air mixture for delivery to an internal combustion engine. The gas/air mixer assembly may also accept fuel under pressure from a gas metering valve or fuel injector for delivery to an internal combustion engine. The mixer includes an air horn, the relative position of which in relation to a shaped restriction body governs the air flow into the engine intake manifold. The flange of the air horn is configured to redirect the flow of air without generating significant turbulence, and providing a maximum velocity perpendicular flow to the injection of fuel to be mixed therein. The relative position of the air horn to the shaped restriction body is determined based on the cubic capacity and speed of the engine with which it is used.

H02K 3/28
US Classification:
318490, 310195
Abstract:
A fail-passive electro-mechanical actuator utilizing dual controllers and a two-phase brushless motor is provided. In one embodiment, the invention relates to a fail passive system for controlling a two phase brushless motor, the system including the two phase brushless motor including a stator, a rotor, a first winding electromagnetically coupled to the rotor, and a second winding electromagnetically coupled to the rotor, first control circuitry coupled to the first winding, the first control circuitry configured to provide a first current to the first winding, second control circuitry coupled to the second winding, the second control circuitry to provide a second current to the second winding, wherein the first control circuitry is configured to receive a first commanded value from an external control circuit, wherein the second control circuitry is configured to receive a second commanded value from the external control circuit, wherein the first control circuitry is configured to receive a negated form of the second commanded value from the second circuitry, wherein the second control circuitry is configured to receive a negated form of the first commanded value from the first circuitry, and wherein the first control circuitry and the second control circuitry are configured to concurrently control a movement of the rotor.

Systems And Methods For Engagement And Disengagement Of Gears

View page
US Patent:
20110290055, Dec 1, 2011
Filed:
May 26, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/788082
Inventors:
Jerry Hielkema - Rockton IL, US
Craig Legault - Rockford IL, US
International Classification:
F16H 61/28
US Classification:
7447312
Abstract:
Systems and methods for engagement and disengagement of gears are provided. In one embodiment, the invention relates to a gear engagement system including a first crown gear assembly including a first crown gear including first crown teeth including a non-magnetic material and a ring including a first magnetic material and coupled along a circumference of the first crown gear, a second crown gear including second crown teeth including a second magnetic material and configured to engage with the first crown teeth, and switching circuitry for selectively engaging and disengaging the first crown teeth and the second crown teeth.

Door Actuation System Having A Variable Damping Device

View page
US Patent:
58034048, Sep 8, 1998
Filed:
Jan 23, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/590121
Inventors:
Anton A. Petrou - Lombard IL
Craig H. Scott - Prospect Heights IL
Stephen B. Warner - Evanston IL
Jerry D. Hielkema - Franklin Park IL
Assignee:
MPC Products, Inc. - Skokie IL
International Classification:
B64C 124
US Classification:
2441295
Abstract:
The damper is comprised of a set of core rotor magnets arranged in an opposing north/south configuration. A conducting material cylindrically encircles the rotor magnets. A set of stator magnets laterally encircle the conducting material and are arranged in the same manner as the rotor magnets. A system of gears are coupled to the damper shaft and control the rotation of the rotor magnets such that they can be positioned relative to the stator magnets to set up the desired damping torque. As the rotor and stator magnets of opposite polarity approach each other, the eddy-current in the rotating conducting material increases causing the conducting material to generate a field in response to the eddy-current. The damping torque is caused by the magnetic force generated when the induced field in the material and the stator/rotor field attempt to line up.

Differential Pressure Regulating Shut-Off Valve

View page
US Patent:
20180017977, Jan 18, 2018
Filed:
Jul 13, 2016
Appl. No.:
15/209273
Inventors:
- Grand Rapids MI, US
Jerry Dean Hielkema - Loves Park IL, US
International Classification:
G05D 16/16
F16K 1/18
F16K 31/122
Abstract:
Provided is a valve assembly system including a flowbody including a channel formed at an inner surface thereof, a butterfly plate disposed within the channel and rotatably mounted within the flowbody. The system also includes a pair of dual-sided pistons that receive differential pressure at an input side and an output side of the valve assembly system. A spring is controlled for biasing against at least one of the dual-sided pistons based on the differential pressure, and to rotate the butterfly plate to regulate the differential pressure and the valve assembly system to a predetermined output pressure.
