Self-Contained Fluid Management Pump System For Surgical Procedures

View page
US Patent:
6602221, Aug 5, 2003
Filed:
Jul 3, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/609413
Inventors:
Heber Saravia - San Francisco CA
Jens Voges - Palo Alto CA
Assignee:
Stryker Corporation - Kalamazoo MI
International Classification:
A61M 100
US Classification:
604 31, 604 67
Abstract:
A fluid management pump system ( ) for applying an irrigation/distention solution to a surgical site. The system includes a pump ( ) for forcing the solution through an inflow tube ( ). A portable power pack ( ) attached to the pup provides the energization current for actuating the pump. The solution is introduced into the surgical site from the inflow tube through a first cannula ( ) across which there is a relatively small pressure drop. Fluid discharged from the surgical site is drained from the site through a second cannula ( ) across which there is a low pressure drop. A hand controller ( ) is attached to the inflow and outflow tubes. The hand controller contains a valve ( ) for regulating fluid flow through the outflow tube. A pump control circuit ( ) is also disposed in the hand controller. Based on the actuation of buttons ( ) mounted to the hand controller, the pump control circuit regulates the energization signal applied to the pump so as to regulate the rate at which solution is discharged from the pump.

Commercial Frozen Food Preparation Apparatus Sanitation

US Patent:
20110088558, Apr 21, 2011
Filed:
Oct 12, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/902277
Inventors:
James J. Farrell - Orinda CA, US
Jens Peter Voges - Oakland CA, US
Assignee:
F'Real Foods, LLC - Orinda CA
International Classification:
A23L 1/00
A23G 9/22
US Classification:
99275, 99460
Abstract:
A machine prepares semi frozen food products and/or beverages from pre-prepared (e.g. frozen) cups. A user chooses the desired frozen cup, inserts it into the machine, chooses how they would like it prepared from a range of thickness options, and the machine then opens a sealed chamber door and inserts the product upward into the chamber and prepares the product by blending it in the cup. Upon removal of the product and resealing of the chamber door, the cleaning mechanisms provide thorough cleaning of all food contact surfaces and the chamber interior. Automatic high temperature steam sanitation takes place in the chamber if the machine is not used for an extended period of time, thus greatly reducing or eliminating the need for manual cleansing and sanitation by an attendant and ensuring healthy food preparation at all times.

Inventors:
James J. Farrell - Belvedere CA, US
Jens P. Voges - Oakland CA, US
Clayton G. Gardner - Alamo CA, US
Steve T. Connell - San Francisco CA, US
Shek Fai Lau - Foster City CA, US
Gage C. Cauchois - Oakland CA, US

Jeffrey A. Tilley - La Honda CA, US
Assignee:
F'real Foods, LLC - Orinda CA
International Classification:
B01F 13/00
B02C 18/10
B01F 3/12
US Classification:
241 27, 366203
Abstract:
A method for blending food or beverages, preferably using a blender that is compact enough for home use, rugged enough to blend frozen beverages, simple to use and safe. The blender includes an upper housing, with a front housing door, that covers the moving blending machinery. The blender also includes a cupholder receiving area which allows the user to safely insert a frozen beverage cup inside a cupholder for blending. After the start button is pressed, a cupholder lip will be grasped by the clamping jaw of an elevator assembly to lift the cupholder up. As the cupholder is lifted upward, a cover will be pressed over the top opening of the inserted cup to prevent spillage during blending. The elevator assembly will then continue to lift the cupholder upward until the rotating cutter blades of a spindle assembly cut through successive layers of the frozen beverage.

Abstract:
A blender for home or commercial use that is rugged enough to blend frozen beverages, simple to use and safe. The blender includes an upper housing with a front housing door that covers the moving blending machinery. The blender also includes a cupholder receiving area which allows the user to safely insert a frozen food or beverage cup inside a cupholder for blending. After the start button is pressed, the cup and cupholder will be lifted together for blending in a balanced, linear motion by an elevator assembly. Dual lead screws or a dual belt drive are preferably used in the elevator assembly to achieve this balanced, linear motion. As the cupholder is lifted upward, a cover will be pressed over the top opening of the inserted cup to prevent spillage during blending. The elevator assembly continues to lift the cupholder upward until the rotating cutter blades of a spindle assembly cut through successive layers of the frozen food or beverage. To facilitate cleaning, the spindle assembly is preferably removable from the blender through use of a quick release coupling mechanism.
